by night yesterday was wet but fun! There were many dazzling lights, beating music and cheering people! How did it go for myself? Long post ahead! Tldr: started bad, went better, still happy.
Bad: I started bad mentally. I got lost twice en route to the start (bad signs, darkness), so I had to run to the start position. I was supposed to meet a friend, but she didn't want to wait and left me to find her in the crowd of the start. As expected, I did not find her at all that evening. This all meant I had to start at the back of the wave and had to weave my way forward. That's why I ran 8.8km instead of 8km. Due to these tensions, my core was tense and I didn't breathe well at the first kilometers. Throughout the race I had to remind myself a couple of times how I should breathe and move. Also, my finish time was 3 minutes slower than my goal.
Good: I struggled with my core, but the legs didn't hurt! Today I'm still tired, but it's tiredness in a good way. At the bridge at km6 there was more room and I could accelerate. My undershirt worked really good and I wasn't troubled by cold or rain. And in the end I'm totally happy with my average, 5"28 over 8.8km, no interval! If I can run in a straight line next week (@geuzenloopzoetermeer
) I am confident I'll run a good race!
Also, maybe I'm an inverted wormhole. Where everyone runs a certain distance, I manage to do the same but with +10% distance.
