Do you ever meet someone for the first time and know right away that you’ll get along? #twinning 👯‍♀️ 📷 @bettyyj
We had the whole mountain to ourselves yesterday up Bull Creek Hills. I love this area of the Highwood! Warm winds and blue skies make for an awesome day along the ridges - and a brief jog back to the car to beat the setting sun.
Yesterday’s hike up the south ridge of Mount Allan was spectacular 😊 #abparks #kananaskis #mykananaskis
One of those days when mosquitos have decided to ruin your day
The lakes were wide open only a week ago, but the ice is coming quickly. Night comes quickly too. The season of darkness is settling in. I’ve seen a lot of posts among my friends lately about mental health struggles. There’s no doubt that those struggling often suffer more in the dark months. It’s good to see those posts though, because I know it doesn’t mean that there are more depressed people, it just means that more people are feeling comfortable opening up about it. As the days get shorter, let’s lengthen our patience and compassion for friends and family who may be suffering, and let’s keep working to end the stigma and silence. #mentalhealthadvocate #endthestigma #patricialake #myjasper #jaspernationalpark #lowkeycreatives #atlastrails #hikevibes #hikealberta #dailyviewalberta #albertaviews #moodnation #depthsofearth #earthinside #earthoutdoors #outdoorsociety #outside_project #wondermore #mtnfolk #wildernesstones #livetocreate #inspiremore #folkscenery #abparks #explorecanada #explorerockies #wanderers #roamnation #choosemountains #depressionawareness
And when the sun came out, how it all glittered and sparkled, as if everything had been strewn with diamond dust -Hans Christian Andersen The magic of winter has arrived. I am excited.
These next few weeks are gonna be insane! Starting a new job, getting ready for a trip, and everything in between. Send help pls 😂 #adventurejaunts
We drove three hours into the blizzard. We start the trail head without seeing more than 100m up the mountain than after about half an hour this happened.... We spent the entire day in complete bliss 🙌 the secret: Prepare for the worst. Hope for the best. A lesson my brother once taught me that I live by on a regular basis. #abparks #wildandfree PC: @88hannah88 📸📸
Scrambling up Squaw's Tit in Canmore (seen in the top right). No we didn't summit. But yes, that's the widely accepted and commonly used term, and the unofficial name of this outlier on the Mt Charles Stewart range. My phone really wished I didn't mean to write that, and insisted that I meant 'Squads Fit'. I also really wished I didn't mean to write that. There is another peak in Canmore that was commonly known as Chinaman's peak, after a Chinese cook for the Canadian Pacific Railway who took a $50 bet that he could summit it in under 10 hours, and won. This peak is now better known as his name, Ha Ling, to be less offensive. Why are we less offended about using the word 'squaw'? What sort of second class citizens status are we promoting here? . . #travelalberta #abparks #explorealberta #canmore #mountainlife #scramble #getoutstayout #womenwhohike #wildish #hikemoreworryless #rockymountainhigh #mybanff #gains #summitseekers #weekendwarrior #exploremore #travelstoke
Beginning of October. I repeat. This was the beginning of October
What would you do if you knew you could not fail? . If I’m perfectly honest, for years I’ve been afraid of failing. I’ve believed that success and failure were opposites; if I didn’t succeed, by default I had failed. . But the more I create, the more I see otherwise. . Fear kills success more than failure ever will. . Creativity sees failures, not as fatal, but as the very stepping stones of the creative process. . When we stop fearing failure, we can start being artists 🌾 . . . . . . . . #WelcometotheGiesbrechts #nikon #abparks #bighillsprings #explorecanada #travelalberta #explorealberta #capturecalgary #shootandshare #wildernessculture #dearphotographer #welivetoexplore #travelersnotebook #travelwriter #welltravelled #darlingescapes #traveljournal #travelwithme #travelblogger #goplayoutside #sheexplores #naturesbeauty #liveauthentic #keepitwild #canadasworld #womenwhoexplore #womenwhoexplorealberta #liveoutthere #natgeoca #createexplore @artofvisuals @earth @roamtheplanet @travelalberta @canada @stayandwander @dailyviewalberta @dailyviewcalgary
Yesterday’s little hike was just what I needed, it was a great way to end the weekend and clear my head. It also helped me determine that 6km is the perfect distance for my pregnant body before my hips and pelvis start to ache 😂 • I bought my Unisex Essential Hoody from @parkscanadashop in a large a few months ago. When I put it on, Adam told me it was way too big and that I shouldn’t wear it out of the house. My intention was for my belly to grow into it, and at 6 months pregnant, it fits great! I just noticed today that they have a Men’s Essential Hoody in navy now. It may be for men, but this pregnant lady thinks it would be great for hiking with the bump! Luckily summits have cairns or today I surely would have blown away! A good #MountainMonday nonetheless 🏔
I do this thing sometimes called "whatever the fuck I want"
Well, I'm broken again and "confined" to the house for 6 weeks. Which gives me an opportunity to share some of my favourite #kananaskis country photos that I've ever taken, in celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Kananaskis. There's even a photo "contest" about it, using the hashtag #mykcountrycontest . September 5, 2009. Do you ever get the feeling that you're being watched? There are lots of #bighorn #sheep in K-Country. I read a study that said the ewes and their lams live up high and the rams live down low. Personally, I think that's nonsense. I see the ewes and lambs down at road level in the valleys all the time, and I only ever see big rams -- and groups of rams -- up high. This particular one was part of a group of 7 that were keeping an eye on us up at Headwall Lakes. They actually approached us to find out what we were, and they came within ~30 m (this shot was with my zoom on a 58 mm equivalent lens). They weren't threatening us, just investigating before they wandered off. . My 6 weeks is up, and I'm almost healed. I get to return to #volunteer field work next week, and it will be nice to get back out hiking. My foot surgery means that downhill skiing hasn't been affected, and all was good for my first day on the slopes last Saturday. All that having been said, it's been fun digging out photos in my archives to post, so I'll probably keep doing it. My digital photo library only goes back to 2007; I have some great shots from before then, but have never scanned them into digital format. . . . . #nature #abparks #albertaparks #discover #mountains #rockies #getoutside #instagood #picoftheday #photooftheday #hiking #hikingculture #goexplore #mindthemountains #exploremore #enjoynature #wildlife #discoveralberta

November skiing is all about the laughs😃🤣. How much your feet hurt, how bad your mustache is. Who's going to hit the most rocks riding down . But all in all its good times. #findyourflow #travelparks #rockies #Abparks #goodtimes #movenber #ptex #skitouring #splitboarding #wecanallbefreinds

⇞ I’m having such a good time (I’m having a ball 🎶) revisiting the archives, re-discovering old adventures, and re-editing them with a newfound aesthetic. It’s taken me a little time to come to a true understanding that although the craft of photography is achieved through technical means, the purpose is lost when focus remains on the technical. When I look at some of my favorite artists and their images, I don’t care what lens they used, whether they have a mirrorless camera, use film, what their f-stop was, or if they applied the rule of thirds. I’m drawn to how their image made me feel. The light, the color, the movement, the emotion captured...I think some of these things are slipping through our fingers a little on Instagram. My purpose isn’t to nail the exposure, get the perfect composition or take a “better” shot of the same thing that everyone else already has. I’m challenging myself to grow in my own vision and understand why I do this, and what I want to share. I am so moved by many of the the images I see, and I want to move others. I see some of those who have been doing this for 30+ years and think, what a beautiful journey. I’m so thankful to be in the middle of that journey and to have the opportunity to see all of yours❤️ . . . . . #moon #mountain #dusk #visualsofearth #ourplanetdaily #earthofficial #roamtheplanet #stayandwander #folkscenery #wildernessculture #awakthesoul #exploretocreate #sharecangeo #canadasworld #explorecanada @albertatourism #travelalberta #myalberta #visitcanmore #mykcountry #mykananaskis #abparks #paradisecanada

Today I had the chance to take in a production called “Voices from the Front” at my college. Hearing the stories of so many men and women who served in the world wars is truly a sobering experience, and gives me such an incredible appreciation for the freedom we have today. Lest we forget.
Easily accessible from the town of Banff - Lake Minnewanka is a beauty place to stop and take pictures or enjoy the many hiking trails in the area 👌🏼

happiest when hiking
It’s a little tough to transition into this cold weather, but I refuse to stay home and miss out on exploring new places. Also, I love the light in the winter. The sun doesn’t get quite as high in the sky and dusk comes earlier, so there’s still plenty of time for beers in the mountains after🍻 . . . . . #sharecangeo #canadasworld #imagesofcanada #explorecanada #paradisecanada #tourcanada #canadaviews @albertatourism #travelalberta #albertaviews #myalberta #visitcanmore #mykcountry #mykananaskis #spraylakes #abparks #curiocitycalgary #loveyyc #capturecalgary #yycphotographer
Last light at Peyto Lake two days ago from the glacier lookout, only a short hike from the parking lot. The pattern of ice swirling as it forms over the lake surface was beautiful. It’s always worth exploring a little bit out here, especially when you have it all to yourself in the crisp silence of a snowy landscape. #mybanff #peytolake #icefieldsparkway #parkscanada #albertatourism #abparks #hikevibes #mtnfolk #visualsofearth #wildernesstones #atlastrails #lowkeycreatives #wondermore #moodnation #wandermore #roamtheplanet #stayandwander #wildernessnation #choosemountains #explorerockies #explorecanada #explorealberta #banfflakelouise #canadianrockies #earthescope #mountaincultureelevated #depthsofearth #folkscenery #explorers #travelscope
