Well what a 24 hours we have had! Started with surgery and then finally home. Thank you to everyone who reached out and helped us out today. Sam did amazing through surgery and we are on the road to recovery! Got amazing news with her progress and the healing should be count down tremendously do to the hard work from the first surgery!! I’m so proud of you Samantha and you are truly a warrior in my eyes. It has not been easy this past year, but like we always say, we don’t like things easy because we love knowing that we can accomplish anything!! 6 weeks post OP and my incisions FINALLY healed. It's been just over 8 weeks since "The incident" and to be honest it's been the longest 8 weeks of my life. I would not have made it through without my friends and family. You guys seriously give me so much strength and hope when everything seems impossible. Thank you! The most difficult part of this experience has been learning how to cope with life while literally not being able to move or walk. I had to postpone taking my 200 Hr YTT which was devastating and my mental health definitely took a hit. BUT there is a light at the end. On my way to [ri-kuhv-uh-ree]!! I had my 6.5 hour knee/nerve surgery today. . Im excited to heal, be able to run around with my kids and get my ass back into the gym. 16 months since my accident and it really flew by even though it didn't feel that way when I was pregnant. So far so good, fingers crossed that I won't need any pain meds but I'll keep my drainage tube keepsake for a little bit ;) . Onto PT in a week but non weight bearing for 8 weeks, I'll be patience to ensure my cadaver ligaments heal properly and aim for the best recovery as possible ♡ hard work here I come! . This photo was taken during hospitalization. There is the toughness occurrences ever. My first surgery was September 7,2018. One day three months ago I fell down with a dull sound. Cuz, I tore my right knee’s ACL. Therefore I went in for a right knee’s ACL reconstruction with a hamstring tendon. The surgery was successful with funny happenings and I have been proceeding one step at a time. But unfortunately, I can’t play basketball and hard exercise for the present. I must do severe rehabilitation and restore function. Even worse, it takes too long time to completely recover. It’s about a year. But it’s okay. I swear I’ll definitely return. And last but not least, I’d like to appreciate the your support. My family, friends, many bros, doctor, nurse, physiotherapist and everyone! || Setbacks & Comebacks || ••• yesterday’s MUA (manipulation under anesthesia) was a bit harder on my body than I had anticipated. It took me a good 24 hours to get out of the anesthesia funk, and today my knee is swollen and sore. It feels like a setback, and in a way, it is. With swelling comes limping and less ROM than I had when I walked in. With soreness comes hesitation in stretching and PT exercises. But, in the long run, this setback will help aid in my comeback. I have faith that before I know it, I will be back to kicking the soccer ball around, running in more races and climbing more mountains. TECHNIQUE TUESDAY brings you a great way to get swelling, bruising, edema and pain down, especially for post ops. Here is a 1 week old post-op ACL and meniscus repair who measured 38.5 cm girth at joint line at her first visit. Second visit 2 days later we applied the tape, and today (4 days later) she has a girth if 36.0 (2.5 cm difference!!) 🙌🏻👏🏻🙌🏻👏🏻🙌🏻👏🏻 The "fan cut", affectionally referred as "jellyfish", is applied with 10-15% tension ("paper-off" tension) to cover the area of swelling. ❗️ACL Rehab - Quads❗️ ——- 💪Regaining quad contraction and strength is a huge component in rehab regardless of what stage you’re at. I’m often surprised at how people present when they come to me from other facilities. The quads (in addition to range of motion) sets the foundation for rehab. In the immediate post operative phase, I encourage my patients to perform quad sets hundreds of times a day. This by no means reducing the importance of hamstring, glutes and calf strength.❗️#WesleyTalksACLs ——- 🏋️‍♀️Here are three exercises focused on the quads I like to use in rehab. These can be done in the middle to late strengthening phase but is obviously patient dependent (please don’t ask me what week she is or what week you can do these, the answer is, it depends!) 1️⃣ Single leg pistol box squat - a challenging exercise that I’m using to focus on eccentric quad strength as I have her slowly lower down. 2️⃣ Box squats - squats are a foundational exercise that should be utilize in every ACL rehab. It’s functional and is great for quad and glute strengthening. 3️⃣ Lunge to box step - I have no idea what to name theses but I cued her to drive off the front leg and minimize pushing off with the back leg. ——- 🙌🏼 Tag someone who could use these exercises! 🤷🏼‍♂️ Post questions or comments below! 👇

I’m going slowly so my VMO starts shaking, and activates! — 2️⃣Squats (uneven ground): Trying to go down, while keeping my right knee stable. — 3️⃣Right leg: Using the wobble ball as if it was uneven ground. I feel that this is building my confidence on my right leg. — 3️⃣Lateral squats with elastic band: Going for as many as I can, until my glutes and legs are burning. — 👀 Fact: I’ve been watching couple of YouTube videos about ACL. One of them is an engineer talking about, how an ACL can be combine with silk material. Keep in mind that, once an ACL is reconstructed the proprioceptive nerves are gone, but this is the only solution that’s available today. BFR And POST-SURGERY: 🔸 Blood flow restriction can be an amazing tool post-surgery to help reduce muscle atrophy and increase muscle strength during periods of time when you're typically unable to load heavy. 🔸 However, it's important to note that while BFR has been shown to be extremely safe in a variety of populations, including post-surgical, screening procedures must be in place to ensure that the client is the right fit for BFR, as blood clots are one of the largest concerns post-op. 🔸 3 Considerations For EVERY Post-Operative Client: 🔸 Length of immobilization - The longer the pre- or post-surgical immobilization period, the higher the risk of developing blood clots. This can be compounded with poor vascular and metabolic health and age. 🔸 Injury to the Arteries - Arterial injury occurs either following reperfusion of the blood after surgery or during the surgery itself. Depending on the type of surgery (ACL vs. joint replacements for example; lower risk for ACL), higher levels of damage to the arteries may be present which would increase the risk for blood clots. 🔸 Increased Ability of Factors Promoting Clotting - While BFR has been shown pretty conclusively to promote anti-clotting, individuals following surgery are still at an elevated risk of clots for at least 6 weeks. Damage to the arteries can increase clotting factors due to the inability of the arterial cells to dilate. 🔸 Taking into consideration these factors, each patient should be screened thoroughly prior to using BFR and a correspondence with the surgeon for ALL post-operative cases should be routine practice. #postop follow-up today. stitches removed after another set of x-rays. the PA showed me #surgery photos so i could see my fucked up #ACL and my ligament graft, then showed me the x-rays so i could see the button and screw holding the graft in place. we talked about my swelling, range of motion, pain levels, etc, and he said i'm doing better than a lot of people would be at this point, so that's promising. i've been given the green light to resume PT and work toward getting out of the brace. after my appointment, justin took me to tj maxx to buy some more brace-friendly shoes [my beloved boots are too cumbersome], then #starbucks for a little #treat . today was my first real adventure out of the house since #surgery . i'm exhausted, but it feels good to #getoutofthehouse . . #dailyphoto #kneeinjury #surgeryrecovery #aclsurgery #aclrecovery #chailatte

His leg is still quite sore, but it’s the 1st time he’s looked sure footed. He’s lost weight (muscle), but I would too if I had “bed” rest for a month. He’s happy though! Home 😊 Today has been a tough day in every aspect. I saw my surgeon about the increased pain in my knee. Before he had even examined it he said to me “so, we’re going to be scanning it aren’t we...!” He knows me too well...! 🙈 But he examined it and thinks the pain is most likely in my MCL and he thinks it’s just inflammation that should settle down on its own if I keep off the impact and open chain exercises. He said it definitely doesn’t seem to be pain in the medical meniscus, which I was worried about, and he also said it’s unlikely to be down to anything I’m specifically doing, which is also good as I was concerned my technique doing something or my walking etc was causing the problem. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If the pain doesn’t settle he said he can give me a cortisone injection that will resolve it. He said he suspected we would have some more issues as we increased activity given the complexity of my injuries and reminded me that my knee has gone through a lot with having a second surgery but that I’m doing well and so I shouldn’t be disheartened.... (and that I should keep being sensible with my rehab...obviously!! ) He said he can see all the work I’ve put into rebuilding my quad, which was nice, and so I felt like a good little patient! 😇 ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So, I’m obviously getting an MRI scan on Friday, just to be sure there’s nothing else going on... 🤞 I asked him if he had missed me to which he responded that he hasn’t been given the time to miss me...(rude!) folllowed by a comment that my insurance company must love me...! 👍 Hello MRI scan number 6....! 👋- it will be nice to see the girl who works in the imaging area as she will likely have missed me too....! Do the words DRAMA and QUEEN spring to mind...?!? 👸 I don’t even care as it’s my knee and it really matters to me, just in case anyone who follows me was in any doubt of this fact.... 🙈😂

When I haven’t eaten anything all day and have rushed from home to school to hospital to finally sort my very poorly knee, and find out that my whole ACL has ruptured along with a number of other damage....and I’m feeling pretty darn sorry for myself. You know you have some pretty great friends when they hand select you your favourite salad (with added boiled egg!) fruit and chocolate milk and then come and personally deliver it to you at the A&E. My knee is fucked. Today I saw a specialist knee surgeon He twisted me up, ordered another MRI and Xray and told me my ACL ligament is torn, my cartilage is damaged and as is the joint. He suspects a partial replacement and ligament reconstruction. But he'll know definitely the plan next Tuesday, my next appointment. I'm scared, another surgery, third anesthetic this year. And being unable to weight bare and walk for a long time. Rehabilitation is 6months plus. I live in a first floor flat. Ahhh. I knew it was coming but I'm mentally overwhelmed... It’s been a while since I posted. I’ve just let my knee heal and haven’t worked on it as seriously as I probably should have. I would hurt too much if I did. So I thought I’ll stop the pressure and take some time. I’ve been feeling pretty good so I’ve hit the gym. That’s when you realise how weak the knee really is. Onwards and upwards. DM me! #Repost @lenmacpt with @get_repost ・・・ I posted this the other day on #Twitter because I keep hearing people talk about the failure rates after an ACL.⠀ .⠀ I feel like 1 major reason why people are failing within the 1st 1-2 years after returning is because they get back on the field with residual weakness.⠀ .⠀ When the patient's insurance runs out, they workout on their own or often seek out a personal trainer to help them.⠀ .⠀ I feel we as PT's can do a much better job at showing our value to our patients by keeping them under our care an progressing them back to their sport. ⠀ .⠀ If we don't have the facilities to do this, then we must work with others in our region to help our clients get the bes care possible.⠀ .⠀ At @championptp , we often get referrals from area clinicians asking to take over their client's care and advance them back to their sport. I definitely respect that clinician for recognizing their care may not be the best for the client at that time in the rehab process.⠀ .⠀ Do you utilize clinicians in your area in these situations? Do you think we could improve our ACL outcomes if we did this more?⠀ .⠀ Let's discuss this below and make sure we have a plan in place when that 2-3 month rehab phase approaches.
