Throughout the committee hearing, several Republican senators including Ted Cruz and Thom Tillis pointed to the Obama campaign’s use of Facebook data, to highlight the fact that such practices are bipartisan.
However, people who downloaded the Obama campaign app were aware they were using a political app. By contrast, the data obtained by Cambridge Analytica was obtained via a personality quiz application whose users had no idea their data would be used by a political campaign.
Cambridge Analytica improperly obtained the personal information of millions of Facebook users to build profiles of US voters in order to target them with personalised political advertisements, via a related UK-based entity called SCL Elections.
- We exploited Facebook to harvest millions of people’s profiles, said Wylie in March. - And built models to exploit what we knew about them and target their inner demons. That was the basis the entire company was built on.
Wylie has previously told MPs at a British select committee that the EU referendum was won through fraud after Vote Leave allegedly used a network of companies to get round election spending laws. He said he thought there “could have been a different outcome had there not been, in my view, cheating”. He also met privately with House Democrats in April, but Wednesday’s hearing was his first public appearance before US lawmakers.

FYI: No matter how you Identify if we don't meet these basic needs it's almost impossible to thrive ! 🏳️🌈 Did you Know MOST LGBTQ++ People don't meet these needs because of:
😢Discrimination 😢Abandonment( Family, Friends, Employment) 😢Trans Individuals (MOSTLY) of all populations are the most Underserved & Misrepresented
Specifically our Transgender people of Color
😢Absence of Support(FamilyFriends,Employment, Education, Housing ect.)
You see when I think of 🌈PRIDE🌈
I think of our LGBTQ++ Community are some of if not the most Resilient People and Amazing people on the planet.
We choose to be Authentic and Live our Truth Knowing the consequences and Persevering through our daily lives.
BUT THATS ALSO NOT OK !! WHY?? We all wake up with the same red blood through our veins
But we ALL DO NOT have to worry about our safety every moment of everyday.
We ALL don't have to worry that if we express our love to our partners in public that we are at risk of assault or harrassment EVERYDAY
It's not ok that Our TRANS community get murdered more than any other population especially our Transgender people of Color
IT'S NOT OK someone lost their life because of being who they are or don't get proper healthcare and basic needs !
ITS NOT OK to ignore our LGBTQ COMMUNITY
We need to meet our basic needs everyday or we are at risk of not living a quality of life.
LGBTQ++ people are at RISK everyday we walk out of our doors.
I WALK WITH HONOR FOR OUR LGBTQ++ COMMUNITY
I CELEBRATE PRIDE IN WHO WE ARE 🏳️🌈🌈🏳️🌈🌈🏳️🌈🌈🏳️🌈🌈🏳️🌈🌈🏳️🌈🌈🏳️🌈

Wylie said that Bannon's plans began to solidify in 2014, when Cambridge Analytica consulted various Republican campaigns and PACs ahead of the midterm elections. The company began to test and apply its psychographics by using Facebook data to model individuals' personality types in order to understand how to influence them.
Documents show the John Bolton Super PAC, which promoted candidates supported by recently appointed White House national security adviser John Bolton, paid Cambridge Analytical $454,700 in 2014 for "behavioral microtargeting with psychographic messaging." Those services included strategies that broke individual voters into "clusters" based on what messages would resonate with them.
Wylie also said the company used focus groups and messaging trials in 2014 to test some of the concepts that became core themes of the Trump campaign, such as "drain the swamp" and imagery of walls. "A lot of the narratives of the Trump campaign were what we were testing in 2014," Wylie said.
He added that Bannon directly presided over much of the company's initial research. "Everything that we were doing ultimately had to be passed up to Bannon for approval," said Wylie, who left the company in late 2014.
Wylie said Bannon would fly to London about once a month for company meetings, and during that time he came to understand Bannon's ideology. "He really liked the idea of using a military-style approach to changing people's perceptions," Wylie said.

@kaepernick7 just settled with the @nfl today and here are a few thoughts of mine: at first I was against Kaepernick on kneeling because I kept telling people “He has no idea what it means to be oppressed.” But as I educated myself more about social movements and protests and especially more so Human Rights, I began to stand behind him. It doesn’t matter if you’re rich or poor, if you’re an athlete or a celebrity or even a college student. We are all trying to find our way on how to make the world a better place and if you can do that with whatever platform you have, WHY NOT. Jackie Robinson did it, Jack Johnson (famous boxer in the early 20th century who fought against Jeffries “the Great White Hope), and others used the Sports Platform go politically criticize society and even the government. Sports has a long history of social movements before social movements even existed!!! And if you have that power, as a human being you have every right to exercise your political views and social views about the things you see around you. If you feel that it is wrong and have COURAGE do something that might change perspective or even open up conversations then why not do it? You can still love the sport but don’t be ignorant about the world around you. There are so many problems that can be fixed in this Great Nation that we love. #sociologists#socialmovements#kaepernick#nflsettlement#kneelprotest#nflplatform#activist#socialactivist#bethechangeyouwanttosee

Small talk on equality (as I’m wearing my equality top) but as today is the day Sylvia Rivera died back in 2002, we should all take a moment and reconsider the way the trans community has been treated :) Sylvia was incredible, she was an amazing ally of the trans community who lived through prostitution, the loss of her friend, an incredible activist Marsha P. Johnson, poverty, and alcoholism. Although she dealt with so much she continuously fought for the rights of the Trans community, which in her time seemed to be forgotten by the rest of the LGBT community as it was right after the decriminalization of gay marriage. Let’s take a moment to remember this queen. @timesupnow
