Today’s “happy tail” adoption story comes from Dustin, and his partner Matthew, who adopted Cody in January 2018.💗
“My partner, Matthew, wanted to get me a late Christmas gift and I wanted a dog. In early January, the hunt began! He wanted a tiny black dog but I wanted a bigger dog. Our first stop was at North Central Shelter. I let my partner wander off to see the rabbits as I tracked down a worker and gave him Cody’s number. Right away he stated that the dog had behavior problems. I went with my gut and asked to see him anyway. When he brought Cody out, I sat down on the ground as Cody sniffed around the fence. I began to call his name and soon he came rushing over and knocked me back. As I sat up, he came closer and allowed me to pet him more and more. Matthew wasn’t convinced that we should get a dog that big still, so we left to visit some more shelters. I couldn't stop thinking about Cody though. A few days later, we decided to go back to visit North Central again. This time a volunteer who knew Cody well helped us. The moment Cody saw me again his tail started wagging and he began licking me. My partner was very hesitant to adopt Cody because of what was on his file, but talking with the volunteer and the advice she shared about bringing a new dog home helped ease his mind. I am thankful for all the help she gave us. And I got the best Christmas gift ever! 😄 Since then we have moved from LA and Cody has a canine sibling. Cody enjoys dog parks, beaches, butt rubs and belly rubs. His favorite snacks to eat are watermelon and carrots. I think I fell for Cody because he reminded me of myself in foster care and and I knew if I passed him up, life wouldn’t be the same. He is a fearless spirit. He is my buddy, my first dog, my world.” ❤️
