The veneer is peeling. The vinyl floor is scuffed and torn in places. My glue up countertops are splitting from the continuous humidity changes. I put a 300lb cast iron tub on the bed and broke some trim. I washed it one time last year. It needs new ball joints, new tie rod ends, new shocks, and much more. Every few months the fan sucks enough bacon grease into the screen I could use it to make a meal. The windshield cracked. The sliding door doesn’t always close all the way, which is especially scary when it fails at 60mph. It smells like feet and farts. I never bought the fridge for it I wanted. Or upgraded to a larger solar kit. Or wired surround sound speakers. Or put in a porthole window like I wanted. Or added a ladder and exterior rack. It’s an old beast with a half ass interior. But, it’s home.
I’ve slept in 20 different states and Canada in it, traveled through countless more. Climbed in all the great ranges of the continental US, it holds my pupperdoodle, my climbing gear, my camping gear, my backcountry ski kit, my ice tools, all my ropes, 2 crash pads, my library, a queen length bed and damn near every possession I own. Not to mention it tows the small trailer full of tools for my small business @nomadconstruction
I’m coming up on 5 years on the road, 2 in my dear Sprinter named “Pequod.”
Feeling extra thankful today as I near the end of yet another work season, and head towards another period of play. It’s not much to show, but this little life feels so grand to me. #vanlife #sprinterconversion #perpetualroadtrip
