4 months ago today, I was hit by a car while riding my bike. I am still recovering, following surgery/hardware to mend my fractured elbow, and a concussion (helmet ✔️ yes) -
But alas- on Sunday, I successfully completed my AIARE Level 1 avalanche safety course - after my final backcountry tour and ski with @coloradomountainschool
I can’t control distracted drivers - or out of control skiers at the insanely crowded ski resorts. But I can educate myself on safety in the backcountry - and manage risk in order to appreciate the crowd-free wilderness, the beauty, and the awesome powder. Most importantly, I can ensure that my 7 year old (who tears it up on the black diamonds) is aware and safe, because I know he will push the limits as he gets older...
So much to learn, still - but thanks to CMS for the amazing guidance and crazy fun experience. And to @cayce_c
for encouraging me to be safe - and believing that I can overcome any physical limitations. @e3fitness
