Princess Tadu-Hepa, or “Kiya” as she would be later known in the court of Akhenaten, was the daughter of Tushratta, king of Mitanni and his queen Juni, who was niece of Artashumara. These historical figures feature prominently in season 2, which gets underway with Akhenaten and Nefertiti ruling as co-regents from their utopian manses in the Temple City of the Sun.
Kiya’s aunt Xilukhepa (sister of Tushratta) had married Great King Amenhotep III during his 10th regnal year. Kiya would be married as a diplomatic bride to Amenhotep III more than 20 years later.
She will be passed off to the newly crowned king Akhenaten who summarily ignores her.
Kiya’s mental instability and impulsiveness will contribute greatly to Nefertiti and Horemheb’s banishments and Akhenaten’s eventual downfall, though she has been manipulated in her loneliness and isolation by the vindictive Princess Dowager who is obsessed with destroying Nefertiti and Tiye. #Kiya #tadukhepa #amenhotepiii #mitanni #tushratta #juni #Artashumara #akhetaten #akhenaten #nefertiti #princessdowager #widowofthepharaoh #aishwaryarai #aishwaryaraibachchan
