Trent Alexander-Arnold’s new long-term Liverpool contract comes as deserved reward for his relentless desire to improve, explained Jürgen Klopp. "I’ve spoken a few times since I’ve been here about Trent signing new contracts, but I have to say this one is a little different,” the manager told.
“The previous ones he signed them maybe as a ‘boy’ – and I don’t mean that in any way to be disrespectful to his importance at that particular point of his life, more about his age, but they were different to this.
This one is very much about ‘the man’ and the player he has become, the status he now has both with us and in the game, and it is thoroughly deserved. Since he last signed for us he is now established in our team, rather than a surprise inclusion – or one where people say: ‘Oh, that’s nice.’ He has played and scored for the England senior team and been to a World Cup.
But with Trent, the most exciting thing about him is that the questions you ask about him always have a very positive follow-on. By which I mean, ‘Is he a fantastic player?’ Yes! ‘But can he get even better?’ Absolutely – and he will!
He is such an amazing person, but I think sometimes maybe a little under the radar for his quality and technical abilities. He is so respected and admired in our dressing room, you would not believe. I know coming from the city brings extra pressure and burden, but he embraces this and thrives off it.
Liverpool supporters love him as ‘one of their own’, although I have noticed he doesn’t have a song from the fans yet, so maybe that is something they can work on. Wow, does he deserve one.
Trent is one of the most relentless professionals I have met when it comes to focusing on getting better each and every day. This is not to compare with any legend past or present, because he will make his own story.
As a player for LFC he is the embodiment of the sentiment ‘We’re never gonna stop.’” #LFC#YNWA#Trent#AlexanderArnold#TAA66#Livepool#LiverpoolFC#WeAreLiverpool#LFCFamily#LFCNews#Anfield#TheReds#PremierLeague#TheRedPost
So let's talk about this game cuz holy fuck lord knows my heart did 482 somersaults and counting. Absolutely insane, and while I usually love 4-3 scorelines (or really any high scoreline TBH), I was not appreciating this one. We played absolutely horrible defense-wise, letting Palace convert all 3 of their shots on target. Alisson just did not have a good game today, but I don't really find myself blaming him.
Van Dijk and Robertson were good (as always), Matip was alright, but Zaha was giving Milner HELL on the right side. I do hope Alexander-Arnold can be back in action soon, cuz at the moment we have a right back situation.
In terms of midfield, we were ok. Keïta showed gleams of what he is capable of, he just needs to unlock it. Fabinho was ok too, Henderson did a surprisingly good job, and I do hope to see Gini and Ox back in action soon.
Now, let's talk about our trio. The trio responsible for 34 of Liverpool's 54 goals scored this season, Firmino, Salah, and Mané. They were easily this game's saviors. Salah equalized, and Firmino gave us the lead for the first time not even 10 minutes later. Palace equalized, but Salah made sure that wasn't the case and gave us the lead again. In the dying minutes, Mané gave us the eventual winning goal, as Palace pulled one back on the other end 2 minutes later. Lovely work from these 3, glad to see them all on the scoresheet on thankful for this positive result. Also pray to God our defense is better against Leicester cuz Jesus 😭
