I first learned about Alexandria as an ancient capital by the sea founded by Alexander the Great from history books in secondary school. Never did I imagine 15 years later, I would visit this place and experience it first hand. You can imagine my excitement as I explored ancient ruins like the underground Roman catacombs, Pompeii pillar, ruins of the Temple Serapeus, the Citadel and the Great Library!
Sadly, most of the ancient city is now either destroyed or buried underneath the modern city from natural and man-made disasters. Grateful as I am to be able to visit Alexandria today, how much of it's history will still be preserved for future generations to see?
