Watching the show ‘Adam Ruins Everything’ in Netflix, I happened upon the episode where Adam talks about immigration problems where he focuses on the issues Hispanic Americans face when it comes to the wall idea and deportation. After the lesson on deviance, I was able to see how such issues can play a major role on the mental and emotional health and the overall view of Hispanic Americans other Americans have from what they learn from media. Like in the video, thousands of people are deported every year, with many not even having done anything to deserve being deported. In a paper I found about how being deported affects emotional and mental health on this group, which reminded me of how the kids felt in the documentary ‘A Class Divided’, I read that, “Children experienced behavioral changes in eating and sleeping habits, and emotional changes such as increased crying, anxiety, anger, aggression, withdrawal, and a heightened sense of fear. These outcomes were still present 6 months later,”. However, as people watch the national news, all they see are the plans for the border wall and how Hispanics seem to have a pattern of being caught up with ‘crimes’ and having to go to court to be deported, which makes the public think that Hispanic Americans are deviants and are bad people, which is not only horribly misleading but also plain horrible.
