📎 I recently got asked if it was okay to eat carbs late at night. - The short answer is YES! - They won’t get stored as fat. What matters is the AMOUNT of calories you have consumed over the period of the day. - How many carbs you have eaten within your calories or WHEN you have your carbs makes NO DIFFERENCE to your rate of fat loss. - When you eat carbs at night, your body deals with them in the same way at 6am as they do at 6pm. - “But when I stopped eating carbs at night I lost weight?” - That is because you cut out calories AND in the evening was when you used to snack or have dessert. You never had 5 bowls of ice cream at 6am BUT 6pm....that’s a different story. - So moral of this post is carbs aren’t bad at night time and they WON’T get stored as FAT. Studies show they carbs late at night can actually help improve sleep!! - Question Answered.

Deadlift friends! So lately, I’ve been getting back into conventional deadlifts. I’m discovering there are two different variations of deadlifts when it comes to body types; short and long femurs. I have a short femur so naturally, the form is to be slightly more upright than not. The weight feels very easy but it’s very important to me to get it right 100% before continuing to progress in weight because quality over quantity. 😊 goal is 500 lbs with perfect form.

One of my favorite meal-prep options right here: shredded chicken street tacos 🌮🌮🌮🤤. Try using a crockpot to make your shredded chicken and then store it in a Tupperware with the broth until the day you are eating it to prevent it from drying out. 👌🏻 My typical toppings are black beans, diced bell peppers and diced red onion, with salsa for minimal macro impact and/or guac if I am OK with the extra fats. Simple, easy and delicious 😋👨🏼‍🍳

So your friend did keto and started telling you about all the weight that came off so fast.. shock! - Maybe you tried it. - Everyone talks about the benefits, but never the rebound that can occur - A ketogenic diet assumes seriously low carbohydrates intakes in order to force the body to use an alternative energy source, ketones, instead of fats or carbs. - When carbohydrates are reduced to this extent, water/glycogen weight in the body is significantly reduced. Glycogen is an energy source, simply understood as stored carb energy in our muscles (and some in our liver). - Our body can hold a ton of this stuff and glycogen molecules come with a ton of water. So often people are just holding onto a ton of water rather than “fat” - So the first week on a ketogenic diet comes with big losses on the scale REGARDLESS of a calorie deficit or surplus. - In other words, the scale can drop pretty significantly in week 1 whether fat is lost or not. - Most people who follow a keto diet will be in a deficit, and lose some fat with the water/glycogen losses, by way of eliminating (carbs), but no guarantees. - These fast losses on the scale can often confirm an incorrect belief you, and many, often have: that carbs are the devil. - And this is often, unfortunately — and falsely! — reaffirmed when someone on a keto diet ends up at a birthday party, consumes 2 reasonable slices of cake and gains 3-4 pounds overnight. - Value the scale point blank too much and you’ll miss the fact that 3-4 was entirely water and glycogen. It was just 2 slices of cake. - If a deficit over time was being upheld on the keto diet, and let’s assume it was, this 3-4 pounds gained overnight wouldn’t be fat at all. - Herein lies the problem thinking those big losses in week 1 was fat. You think the immediate gain in weight was fat too. - Any fat you lost, if you were in a calorie deficit, happened regardless of your carb intake. - So maybe you or someone you know lost like 20-40 pounds on keto. What gives there? Answer- it was water weight

✖️MY ROCK BOTTOM✖️ . Flash back to 2015. Where I just got over my unhealthy addiction to video games that led me to never eat. Lacking overall CONFIDENCE and feeling PAIN. 😶 . I had no voice. I didn’t know how to ‘show up’ in the world. I tried my ass off to hide how I really felt about myself. 🤭 . I was the scrawniest kid in my friend group. Coaches told me I needed to put on weight. I was highly insecure but I didn’t do sh*t about it because I didn’t believe in MYSELF. 😕 . Why? Felt like I didn’t have time through sports, school, and my grocery store job. I lacked the discipline and motivation. I didn’t know how to BALANCE. ⚖️ . High school sucked to say the least. I was jealous of the other kids that had muscle. I worked my ass off in the weight room for sports but could never catch up. I was never close to being the best player on the team. But that made me hungry. 😈 . The hunger carried on after high school and a fire lit under my ass to make a change before going to college. 💪🏽 . I didn’t make some quick 30-90 day transformation. I became a student to growth. Growth mentally, physically, relationally. 🧠 . Fast forward and I found a passion. I’ve found MYSELF and what I want to do. I SHOW UP AND HAVE A VOICE. I have the ability to motivate and inspire others. COACH others to make the same life changes I did. 🤘🏽 . It doesn’t happen quick. It’s the long game that you come to appreciate. 🔥2013 vs 2018🔥 - 5 year transformation! Looking back now, Its crazy to even think I was that small in high school. I did not start working out until I was 18 years old and even THEN , I was not consistent with it. I found my passion in fitness when I reached the age of 19. So I have been working at it consistently for 3 years. It crazy to see how far I’ve gotten. Don’t let anyone tell you you cannot build a better you or you have to take anabolics to be huge💪🏼! Most people think because I’m a trainer, I've lived an extremely healthy & perfect life, all my life.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Like a perfect athlete just born with a genetically gifted physique or god-like metabolism.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The reality is, that’s far from the truth.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I’m human, just like everyone else. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I've faced sleeping issues just like the majority of the people watching this ; Watching youtube videos or Netflix till really late while eating chips.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I deal with stress on a day to day basis and anxiety by creating high expectations for myself.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ When I stress, I have a habit of over-eating or just drinking unhealthy amounts of coffee until all "work" is done.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I don’t always have good training sessions, my joints get sore, and I eat shit some days.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I get tired, unmotivated, and go out and drink on weekends. Smoking has been a part of my life for some time too.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I deal with some serious asthma, over-train often and it affects my immune system. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Lastly, I have a terrible habit of chewing really f*cking fast.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It’s not about being perfect. It’s about making mistakes, recognizing them and then learning from them. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It’s about owning up to it and staying mentally driven to do what you need to do to take a small step forward.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It took me years of messing up, learning, and correcting my mistakes.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It took me YEARS to get to the point I am at today.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ You know that guy or girl that you admire on Instagram? It took them years too.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Don’t strive for perfection. Be quiet in your work, be loud in your successes, but be humble in your defeats. I’m on mile 20 in my journey but I’m not thinking ‘I’ve done a lot of work to get to this point’. I’m still in the mentality of, ‘I still have 10 more miles to go and beyond’. I don’t want to quit; I know that inevitable moment will come one day where I’ll hang up the work and call it a successful-well-deserved ladder, but I’m not there yet. I’m not even in my prime. I’ve just gotten started putting in a team in place to help push me farther than I’ve ever pushed before. My body hasn’t experienced what true pain is; and when it does, that’s the point where I’ll know that I’m just getting into my prime-state. We are about to watch something amazing unfold. Stay tuned.
