This morning’s brekky 😋 as much as I love plating things up all pretty, I felt like eating this out of the glass container I steamed the sweet potato in (saves washing up). Just a mix of #plasticfreeproduce
veggies and some lentil + sweet potato patties that are super easy to whip up. I also indulged in some super-clean #keto
sweets with my almond coffee this morning.
I’m making some tiny adjustments to my current Mediterranean diet to resemble the MIND diet, which has been shown to reduce Alzheimer’s risk by up to 53% by supporting heart health. The basis of this diet is wholefoods, plenty of fibre, essential minerals, vitamins and phytochemicals such as resveratrol (red wine 😍) and sulforophane found in an abundance of vegetables, dark berries and legumes. The diet also includes nuts, small serves of poultry, fish (omega 3) and healthy oils (olive being the main one), whilst minimising dairy, red meat, refined foods and sugar. This is pretty much what I’m doing already (although I still have a bit trouble digesting plant proteins so I eat more Macro Meats kanga to compensate). .
The reason I’m starting this diet at 26 is because all four of my grandparents have/had either dementia or Parkinson’s (my Czech grandpa has stage 5 Parkinson’s; my Aussie grandfather was showing early signs in his 70’s before he passed from cancer; and both grandma/nana are living with severe dementia pertaining to heart health). The genetics around dementia are very strong, and I already have ADD, so my risk of dementia in old age is very high. But I plan to look after my brain as best I can, by eating well and keeping active mentally and physically. Learning a language or musical instrument, brain games and meditation are all great ways to keep those neurons firin’ strong. .
