the work is an exhuming.
of the pain that sits in us, from our life experiences in this realm, as well as of the pain bodies that we carry in cellular memory. those that we came into this world carrying.
our work is with the bones. .
this particular intervention, called remembrance, is a tale that sits in a greater body of work Ezimbekweni ZakaMjana. we've colonized the fairy tale of Repunzel, with the intention of telling the story of what happened to us, as Afrikans. to dig deep into a past that's stained + continues to have us bleed. .
I, together with @diopmawu
recently held a safe space ias part of an intervention offering in collaboration with Inxwala Slow Market, First Thursday Edition - a market + movement in CT created for people of colour. How do we make first Thursday's, our own experience that holds us. .
THE THINGS INSIDE OF US. invited quests to share their struggles, their pain + the things that weigh them down in silence, in the dark, poured out onto sheets of paper, annonomously. we then reshuffled all the notes, sat in a circle + read out loud the sharings. the point is to exhume + release what we hold onto, and what we sometimes don't get the space + support to express. the space is to make intimacy, sharing + loving one another, normal. A practice. the point is to create the safe spaces we deserve so we can scream, cry, scratch the scabs so we can bleed, express + finally heal. because our spirits are in desperate need of healing. .
the work is a work in progress. iam learning to allow the courage to be my teacher, so the work can do what is was shown to do. singing songs of our restoration .
