Anxiety doesn’t feel like rainbows and... narwhals, BUT it isn’t all bad! There is an evolutionary purpose to that feeling in your gut, those heart palpitations, and your sweaty palms. Anxiety alerts us to D-A-N-G-E-R!! Where things get sticky is when the danger is actually irrational and you’ve got a head full of false alarms and negative automatic thoughts (catastrophizing, emotional reasoning, all or nothing thinking) which lead to unnecessary safety behaviors (over preparedness, avoidance, fear). The ONLY way to conquer anxiety is to go THROUGH it - counterintuitive, but true. You must do the thing you think you cannot do, and feel the fear that overwhelms you, in order to have a body of evidence that negates those false alarms and negative thoughts. First you challenge the way you think, then you change the things you do, and finally you must accept that this is HARD, and only then do you begin to feel mastery over your fear. • Priorities • Today is about sorting stuff out. I’m one to dwell when not completing anything. I’ve spent most of this week doing hardly anything but leave my bed. I’m re-writing all my anxiety and depression plans, hopefully lay out a morning and evening routine. Looking further into meditation and ACT therapy. I’ve meditated one already today. It’s hard because I’m shit at not getting distracted and fidgeting. At least I’m calm. And motivated for the first time this week.

Sooo many social media posts share messages like love your relationship with food/your body/life. That can and will happen. But if it feels like too much of a stretch, you/we don’t need to love anything. We can though, inch a little closer to accept it. Just as it is right now. That’s the way to a peaceful relationship with food. ✌️
💭 The average person thinks up to 70,000 thoughts a day. The average anxious person: 1,203,007,456. Per minute. 😮 I kid, I kid. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But sometimes it seems like it, right? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Like your mind is a super highway with electricity buzzing back and forth, a gazillion miles an hour. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But have you ever paused and observed your thoughts? 🤔 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When you do, you might notice the traffic slows down. The blur becomes sharper. You can make out the individual cars (sorry, thoughts) and you can even see the little people sitting inside them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ok, this analogy is getting weird. 😂😂 What I mean is, when you sit in silence and observe your thoughts, things get interesting. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You look at them as an observer. You don't live IN the thoughts, you watch them from afar. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And you notice that some thoughts are helpful, others unhelpful. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is the coolest thing about meditation. It doesn't STOP thoughts (impossible, really). But it slows the stream, takes you OUT of the rush, and allows you the space and time (which weirdly stretches out the more you do it) to really observe the inner workings of your mind. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And then you realise: you don't have to BELIEVE all your thoughts. Boom! 👊 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is why so many people rave about meditation. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is why meditation is a go-to for so many anxious minds. 🌈 Give it a go. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You don't have to get all woo-woo with candles and meditation cushions and mantras, if you don't want. 🌟🌟🌟 Just sit in your chair right now. Close your eyes. Place your hands on your lap. Take a few deep breaths. And then observe your breath as your thoughts float and glide and pulsate and swell and swoosh in and out, in and out. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Then do it again tomorrow. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Watch what happens. ☄ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👇 Do you meditate? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👍 = yes 👎 = ugh, heck no! We are extremely excited and overjoyed to announce our first wellbeing event at Studio 11 is being held on Wednesday 17th October. We are holding a group discussion evening on anxiety. Anxiety is something that is rarely spoke about or dealt with. Anxiety can be the start of all these negative feelings and emotions that arise in you and without having a better understanding of this emotion and without healthy coping mechanisms in place this is the feeling that can lead to darker thoughts and feelings which in turn can lead to depression. We would like to help anyone before it gets to that stage. It's a totally informal event, no counsellor or therapist in sight, just us, explaining our own story, where our anxiety started, what anxiety actually is, and how to cope on a day to day basis. Come along, have a drink and some nibbles on us. We are just gonna sit back, chill out, and chat. Think of it like a girls/lads night in. Sometimes the start of your worries are all in your head, which in turn leads to these emotions of anxiety. Anxiety is a feeling, IT'S NOT A PROBLEM. It's normal and you are perfectly normal to experience this feeling. Please drop us a dm or phone the salon to reserve a place. Last night @jeremyinthebox started to feel really depressed and upset; these feelings happen unexpectedly sometimes and are a symptom of his mental illness. . He asked me up onto the bed because sometime I provide comfort and help him feel better, but unfortunately my presence didn’t help. That’s okay though—sometimes his coping strategies don’t always work, so he knows just to wait and the feelings will pass. He put himself to bed and read his book until he fell asleep, hoping to feel better this morning. . He’s still not feeling better today which is difficult for him, but he’s gotten through the day by just focusing on what he needs to do and distracting himself. Hopefully tomorrow he’ll feel better 💪🏼
I was doing well. Really well. I thought the illness was over. I was proud of the changes I’ve made. Now I feel my body has betrayed me. PMDD has hit hard and the anxiety is so bad I’m shaking and in bed and can’t move and it’s all just ‘pain’. I’m focusing on remembering just two words: ‘micro actions’. What’s the smallest, tiniest thing I can do to move forward, or at least stabilise myself? First, I just accepted that I’m not able to move without shaking and crying and need to be in bed. Then I did some sketching in bed. It was erratic but somewhat soothing. Breathing helps. Posting on here helps. I like this note (pictured). Another day when I had severe anxiety I took myself to a park and just watched the trees. They are pretty calm if you think about it, I like to press my hands to their trunks to feel their strength. Has anyone out there tried hypnotherapy??? I’d REALLY love to hear your experiences because I’m thinking of trying it for my #ibs #anxiety and #emetophobia ! 🖤💥 tbh it scares me a bit and I just don’t know enough about it (even after reading online 😭)
It’s important the difference is highlighted so people suffering from OCD can see what is meant by recovery and what is achievable. Many therapists get people to a point of functioning and then the person with OCD goes on about their life leaving therapy and it gets marked down as a result but this is only half the journey. There are varying degrees between functioning also, this is a scale rather than a finite point as is recovery. Recovery isn’t a set point it’s a scale but after a certain point chronic anxiety disappears but a deeper level of acceptance keeps progressing. I have a much deeper level of acceptance now than I did when chronic anxiety stopped but at that point my life was good enough, I couldn’t tell the different between having OCD or not then, this is a bonus. To achieve OCD recovery it takes a large shift in perspective, this involves lots of work with the therapist and the person suffering tackling it from many angles to shift the sufferers life perspectives. Feeling chronically anxious but functioning with less intrusive thoughts is not the end goal there is a much better life out there for you. Sitting down on the couch or in the bath with no anxiety is the end goal knowing whatever it morphs to you deeply feel and have seen it can’t get its hook in. Do I still get anxious, yes it’s designed to save our life. Do I still get thoughts, yes that’s part of being human. Do I get strong intrusive thoughts, no they have lost their kick. Do I have chronic anxiety, no. Does it ever latch on chronically , rarer but from to time and fades quickly once I go over things and put acceptance and rational thinking in to practice again.
A HELPFUL FOCUS. . 🌱Worrying causes stress causes anxiety, thoughts seem to be always on a downer, this truly gets you down feeling like, how do I get back up? You are focused on the worry giving it all your attention. This is a normal reaction in your emotional brain, humans naturally are then alert to be aware of more danger. . 🌱Change the focus away from danger on to something helpful, let go of the worry and change it to, what can I do about This? Helps your emotional brain understand there's no danger. . 🌱A feeling of proactiveness, brings back hope and helps your mind away from worry and into growing. . 🌱Whenever the focus comes back to worry, think what CAN I do? . THINGS YOU CAN CONTROL. YOU CAN WRITE YOUR OWN LIST. . 🌱On mine I've got A some more added . 🌱I can control my reaction: I choose not to react immediately but observe. . 🌱I can control who I spend time with, I can decide. . 🌱 I can control when I say yes or No, without guilt. . 🌱Ps, many people get into a pickle including my self ( I used to) because no-one showed you how to do This, you've never been shown, we dont learn this in school, so no need to beat yourself up, were learning today 😊 . Self-Serve and Bank it! . . Negative life experiences can cause our self-esteem to suddenly drop. As time passes, our self-esteem improves but it can be hard to bounce back. One strategy I love to teach is to self-serve by banking any compliment we may receive. Most of us find it hard to think of the good things about ourselves, because we commonly magnify the negatives and find fault with the things we can’t change about ourselves. So, when someone says, you gave a confident speech, don’t dismiss the compliment, BANK IT! The point is, to self-serve we need to highlight our qualities and BANK the compliments we receive. A healthy self-esteem is when we can tilt towards the qualities about ourselves and accept the parts we can’t change.
