Who knew @winndixie
had a drive thru all the way back in 1959? 😂
George Thomas, 63, of 701 East Whitaker Mill Road, accidently drove his Buick through the window of the Person Street Winn-Dixie. 11 April 1959.
This Winn-Dixie was located on the south east corner of Franklin and Person Streets, present-day location of the Governor’s Square Condominiums. The store opened in 1957 and took the place of a previous Piggly Wiggly. In 1991 the store closed after a businessman from Franklinton bought the aging property, renovated it and re-opened it as an IGA. Less than a year later, the newly renovated store burned to the ground.
