The preparation is endless. I love every minute of it. With each draw and smack of the target I remind myself that I put in all this work for a purpose much larger than just filling the freezer. I work everyday to get better so that animal goes down in seconds. .
The great Fred Bear couldn't have said it better "I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target, but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's way of fang and claw and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow." @beararcheryproducts
This picture challenge things was a little difficult once I actually picked out my pictures. 10 years ago I was invincible! I thought the world was mine to take but here I am today. Humbled and redesigned. I could dig myself in and break down but I’ve come to realize one thing over the past couple months....God has actually given me a platform to use and I intend to make good use of it. I’ve been granted new opportunities that I would have never imagined! I have been blessed with some amazing new people in my life and shown who my previous friends really were. I have been able to spend time with my mother and slowly chip away at the 15 years we’ve spent apart. Lastly, it’s actually brought my wife and I closer together than we’ve ever been! I thought this picture challenge was stupid but now I’m actually thankful because it allowed me to reflect on my life before and now. Believe it or not, I wouldn’t change it! Have a great week! #challenge #10yearchallenge #veteran #wontquit #archery #hunting #texas #sanantonio #spinalcordinjury #humble #life
Some days I question my past decisions; leaving radio, not sticking to old jobs, etc. Then I meet kids who become more than just my students, they become family.
They surprise me every single day whether that be good or bad. They keep me on my toes and they even teach me lessons I didn’t know I needed. Then, they surprise me with sweet gifts like this just for being their coach. (Plus they know I’m a crazy dog mom) 🤣
These moments remind me that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be at this time in my life and I couldn’t be more grateful for the students who walk in our door. 🏹 #archery #coach #coaching
A throwback to when I started bowhunting . These were shot from a @martin_archery
compound. My very first deer was a 13" wide 8 point. I still remember it like yesterday, I was with my father standing in the brush below a large field when they filed by one at a time. We were just strolling through the woods as he taught me about decoding deer sign. We froze when the first deer passed by in bow range. One by one they trotted by 7 total, each one close to the one ahead. At the tail end of the line was my buck. We had seen him prior to archery season while we were spotting. That night I saw him I told my parents that's the deer I wanted. I drew my bow as he closed the distance trotting in a parallel line to our position. The buck saw me draw my bow and froze immediately broadside. I was already at full draw trying to settle my pin, just to reassure myself I asked my dad " how far is it?". He reassured my estimate of 30 yards. I hit that buck dead center in the heart. Those were the days for me before aiming for a double lung shot was norm. He piled up within 100 yards with a good trail of blood leading us to him. Those moments I'll never forget!!! So when you get a chance take a kid out hunting or fishing. You'll create life long memories!!!! @babewinkelman @cameronrhanes @martin_archery @hoytbowhunting @eastonarchery @spothoggarchery @trufirereleases #keephammering #getafterit #getsome #bowseason #archery #bloodtrail #heartshot
