Drawings by Yasmin Al-Samarrai for ARC3016, Architectural Design Studio 6: Research Studio, L0101, taught by Brian Boigon @brian_boigon.
"Architecture in this studio is understood to be a deeply rich and profound investigation into the nature of being, consciousness and localization," writes Boigon in his course description.
Al-Samarrai's project focuses on the Qur'an, the central religious text of Islam. She writes that her exploration "does not aim to solve or dissect Islam’s current state of religious dissent. Rather, it breaks down and analyzes facets of the religion: the literary structure of the Qur’an that may have contributed to its global infamy, the art and calligraphy that emerges from the sacred text, Islamic architecture, including but not limited to all its forms of iconography and illumination. This thesis explores a sacred language’s realization into the material world by considering its artifacts and transposition into architecture through an investigative lens." #Architecture #design #uoftdaniels #uoft #islamicarchitecture #studentwork #designthinking #exploration #architecturestudio #architecturestudent #archi_field #Architecturefactor
