Many recent buildings are outrageously huge, but few are monumental. Obsessed with the gargantuan---adjuct to our "culture of spectacle"---we risk losing the very concept of the monumental in our headlong rush toward a post-human civilization. ("Alexa! What does he mean by post-human?") Crucially, the monumental is not about mere big-ness. Instead, it is form, irrespective of size, articulated to establish a meaningful ratio between built environment & human scale, a ratio that does not crush or trivialize individuals, but acts as a catalyst to enlarge our vision of ourselves & our place in the world. At its best, it can inspire us to occupy that expanded vision....Consider Gehry's IAC Building: is it monumental? It is tiny compared to the sub-stratospheric reach of the Burj Khalifa, Dubai. But disregard absolute size. For all its archi-tainment value, it disdains & overwhelms the humans it was allegedly built for. This is bogus monumentality that rejects human scale in favor of the fictive scale of Apple Screensaver & the Dubai Tourist Board. By contrast, IAC is only 10 stories tall, height of the world's first skyscraper (1884). Yet its forms, proportions & scale strongly engage with our human experience. It enlarges us. If curious how Gehry did this, see more in Comments. #archisurfer#instarchitecture#architectureanddesign#buildingstyles_gf#buildingswow#structure_bestshots#archilovers_white#sensational_architecture#super_architecture_channel#architectureporn#archiporn#arkiromantix#archidaily#architecturelover

"Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works "
T-RX Midtown is an office building proposal in Lattakia, Syria; the building is approximately 13,000 square meters with three parking basements.
The design process began by analyzing the needs required for the optimal contemporary workplace and the way the working environment is evolving in the area. The main objective was to produce a resourceful optimization of internal space that offers high flexibility for accommodating open-plan or partitioned offices plans and spaces that promote efficient energy consumption.
The building is divided into three autonomous blocks connected through the distribution system, each of which rests on common parking basements. The three blocks are entirely wrapped by a space frame with strategic openings to repel heat, allow natural light inside via glass atriums, and creates a generous protected area in front of the café shops/exhibition windows at ground floor level for visitors and passers-by.
This frame is cladded with GFRC creating a shell that unifies the building form and conveys a sense of robustness and stability to the building at this dynamic location. The variety of types of use in this building includes office space, conference rooms, workshops, public cafes and exhibition spaces. The receding façade at ground floor level creates a generous protected area in front of the café shops and exhibitions windows for passers-by, thus achieving a marked improvement in the quality of this public space. #KF_DesignStudio#decorationidea#decoration#decorating#details#deco#decoración#inspiration#influencer#insta_global#woodworking#woodhouse#woodcraft#mood#simplicity#simpleplan#beauty#beautiful#instaart#3dvisualization#render#color#detailing#archiporn#archilovers#architektura#conceptualart#concept#conceptual#beirut
