On December 30, JWA welcomed a new arrival. Adding to the excitement is the fact that he’s the first baby to be born under JWA’s new parental leave policy. ⠀
Based on research into best practice, it recognises the importance of parental support in the wider context of gender equity in architecture. It also draws on the pioneering work of @_parlour
in investigating the different forms of ‘’accumulated disadvantage” that see 40 percent of female architectural graduates not being retained in the industry long-term. ⠀
Our new policy provides permanent employees, who have worked at JWA for two years, with 16 weeks of paid parental leave for the primary caregiver (in addition to the Government Paid Parental Leave Scheme). Secondary carers receive 2 weeks of paid parental leave. ⠀
Here’s to meaningful change in baby steps.
