John 16:33 (NASB)
These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
Ah, the gym. We’ve had a strained relationship. First, it was a place where I trained with my rowing family. Where I felt safe, had big goals, learnt the highs of fitness, and the success and failure of sport. Fast forward to Uni and the gym became a place of punishment and torture for me. 🙅🏽♀️ Where an Eating Disorder bullied me to go harder, faster, further. Nothing was good enough. Everything was calculated. 📉 I pushed myself so hard it often ended in tears. Tears because I still felt worthless walking out the door. 🙍🏽♀️ When I workout now, I manage those thoughts VERY carefully. I move, lift and stretch to feel strong, powerful and proud. 💛 Proud that my body survived what I put it through. Proud that it still allows me to dance at 4am with my friends, and go on Sunday’s family walks. 🙏🏼 You know what breaks my heart? 💔 Seeing all the girls, boys, women and men working out for the wrong reasons. Trying to become something they’re not, maybe something they don’t even want to be. Perhaps to impress someone? For validation? Because someone told them they should? A friend, family member, social media? 💭 I can see straight through the pain, the self-consciousness, the internal battles. People are scared, sad, lost. I know because I’ve been there. 🙋🏽♀️ If there is ANYWHERE you should feel UNSTOPPABLE, it’s the gym. 💁🏽♀️ Moving, growing, living. For your physical AND mental health. 💆🏽♀️ CELEBRATE YOUR BODY❕It is SO clever. What it’s capable of should BLOW YOUR MIND. 🤯 You hear me?! Whether you’re out there walking on the treadmill 🚶🏽♀️, in downward dog 🧘🏽♀️or bench pressing 150kg 🏋🏽♀️, be proud and LOVE YOUR GOD DAMN BODY. 🗣 “I LOVE MY BODY!!” Who cares what it looks like, what it can or can’t do. It’s YOURS. It’s YOUR HOME. 🏡 Treat and love it RIGHT. We are all on different journeys with different goals, BUT❕goal number one should ALWAYS be to LOVE. YOUR. BODY.❗️When was the last time you thanked your abs for all the laughs, your legs for the times they waited in line at your favourite food truck, your lungs for the drunken singalongs, your arms for cutting sick shapes. 🕺🏻🙈 Cuddle it!! Love it!! Scars, lumps, bumps, spots and all!! 🙏🏼
🚨 LONG POST ALERT 🚨 Two days post op; I had a discectomy to remove a massive bulge that had been pressing on my nerve and giving me so much pain. Currently still in a lot of pain but safe in the knowledge that will heal and be gone in a few weeks and that knowledge? Well it’s a bloody game changer! .
Looking forward to some serious healing and some intense physio to find my core (it’s been MIA for years, I have one giant ab, the rest are shy) and strengthen my back. I’ll be able to exercise properly and even... run (ew!) I am so excited to be pain free, it’s been far too long!!! I’m going to be a whole new woman! So many feels right now.
Skin is looking fresh AF thanks to my @tailorskincare
gems which I’ve been lathering on my face to combat the effects of being in surgery and in an air conditioned environment. Code:PETRINA for some $$ off! .
Then there’s @adashiko
Ultra collagen which I started taking to hopefully give my body some relief but as it turns out, it’s been brilliant for my hair, skin, nails and my gut health has improved a lot! It’s also helped me prep my body for surgery and will be a great healing aid, just look at how beautifully @simone_anderson
healed after her skin removal operation and I’m just so bloody excited about EVERYTHING!! Code: PETRINA10 if you want to get a single bottle to check it out which was how I started and now I’m getting the 4 month supply each time so I never run out. Disclaimer- I pay for all of my own collagen; they’ve got @paybylaybuy
Shout out to my babe @victoriafaith.co.nz
for the editing tips. Go check out her post on how she puts a post together for Instagram, i learned so much!
It’s also ok to be happy. Often we put ourselves down - we reject compliments, underplay how well we are doing and blush when someone congratulates is.
Don’t be ashamed of being ok, of being happy. Others are happy for you!
SEMPI Real Conversations: Aboriginal actor Hope, is a 29 year old woman who is working in Sydney, NSW, Australia. Hope Disher from @mindmonologues
has kindly given us a peek into her life, as it was today, by answering the question, 'How Is Your SEMPI.'
This new System takes mental health conversations beyond ‘Are You Ok?’ See loads more SEMPI "Real Conversations' on our You tube channel https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=sempi+social+communication+model
and go and watch and share Hopes video at https://youtu.be/Apv_riuHaMg
What is the ‘SSCM’ and why was it designed?
This model offers a new way to move conversations around mental and physical health beyond, ‘Are You Ok?’ The ‘SEMPI Social Communication Model’ offers a deeper, more real invitation, asked by one person to another, (between ages three to adult), questions that come from a genuine place of interest for another person, from the acronym ‘SEMPI’, that is available for all community members through a free community resource booklet.
SEMPI teaches community members the steps to take if someone is not OK in that very moment. SEMPI teaches community members how to easily move into deeper, more empathetic conversations, enabling everyone to feel heard & understood, through the acronym known as SEMPI. Each letter within the acronym SEMPI covers all aspects of daily mental and physical health in an easy to use system.
It is suggested that the question ‘HOW IS YOUR SEMPI?’ is offered as an alternative question to ‘Are You O.K?’ Introducing the question, ‘HOW IS YOUR SEMPI?' 'HOW IS YOUR SEMPI?' is a deeper, more real invitation, asked by one person to another, (between ages three to adult). This question is asked if it comes from a genuine place of interest.

HELP OUR CHILDREN TO #SPEAKUP
HOW CAN WE TEACH OUR CHILDREN ABOUT THEIR MENTAL HEALTH THROUGH DAILY 'CHECK IN' CONVERSATIONS so that when something serious like bullying is happening, they have the confidence to speak up and feel safe to do so?
Our children need to learn a new way to speak up and have a voice about their mental and physical health. Ideally, children need to be able to speak safely, and without stigma, in daily conversations with their own peer groups, family care givers, and any community professionals they may interact with.
Imagine a teachable model where children can choose any topic that is foremost on their mind to safely speak about and feel heard, such as isolation, bullying, abuse, hunger, happiness, positivity, stigma, physical illness, mental health, ...all from the one model? Daily?
What if there was a solution to this problem?
I have written a free Sempi Social Communication Children's Model over four years. It is currently being trialed in schools in Australia! I am a professional Psychotherapist, and I have written this model to address this exact problem and to teach our most precious asset, our children, how to have a voice and most importantly, to feel heard.
This video shows how SEMPI has been designed to include, and empower, all members of society. SEMPI is going beyond 'Are You O.K.' If the person being asked is not sure how to answer the question!
Thanks for reading, Alyse :)

Whilst we all have our own lives to lead, rather than saying you're busy or you'll take a 'rain check' try and make time for that person, even if it's for a short phone call to check they are OK.
Remember that they have reached out to you so how would you feel if it was the other way around?? 😊💗🌹
