In India, the name Sonapur means ‘the city of gold' or ‘the city of the sleeping dead'. The first is ironic for Dubai's Sonapur, as nobody really strikes gold here.
Sonapur is now home to an estimated 200,000 Asian workers, mostly from India followed by Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, with some from Nepal, the Philippines and Korea.
Women in Labour camps !!! We have learnt that volunteer programmes at female labour camps isn’t a priority for any groups or organisations...That’s where we decided to stay different . We as a group thought that we should not only just distribute the Ifthar kits for 400 souls , but also decided to share the true spirit of Ramadan . The best part was that we took part in cooking along with the gals in the camp in their kitchen . We then Shared their food with them 🤗
It’s true that - While the men have made a difficult choice to leave their families, these women have probably made a far more difficult choice as mothers. What we do is not enough . They desperately need initiatives ... There is a lot more we can do...
Our happiness was when we saw that , their faces light up with interest when they realise that we are there to give them Ifthar .
We do appreciate youth for India for helping us out in this noble cause . We really appreciate their commitment to service at such a young age . We also Thank #hit96
