Bigpipes Update - Wk 3 Firstly sorry for the picture I know it’s not great but this is my progress update: Starting arm measurement = 16.4 inches Current arm measurement = 16.6 inches Although the angle and lighting are different my arms are feeling a lot fuller. As you can see in the comparison (maybe zoom in) there is about .2 of an inch difference according to the tape measure. Over the last 3 weeks I have been training arms heavy once a week directly and doing 150 curls and tricep extensions around 6 nights a week with 6 kg dumbbells. If I’m being honest it’s a hassle having to do this every night before bed but hey I guess it’s working? Just to be clear I don’t think this is the best way to build your arms particularly if you are starting out and have been resistance training for less than 3 years. Lifting heavy weight, under controlled tension, in the big compound movements like bench, rows, weighted dips and weighted chin ups are the way to go. Given I have been doing these movements for a decent amount of time (6+ years) I needed a completely new stimulus on the muscle to get the change I’m looking for in 8 weeks. When I finish this program I’ll be sharing a beginner and advanced version so for those of you who would like to put some mass on your arms you can do it the correct way according to your training level. By all means if you only want bigger arms now give it a try because it’s working but remember for natural lifters the faster you put on muscle the faster your rate of diminishing returns will be in the later years (I.e your rate of muscle growth will become slower and slower year after year). Anyhow the next 3 weeks of the program are hypertrophy focused so I’m hoping this will continue to stimulate growth. Check in again soon ✌️ #bigpipes #armworkout #armtraining

BUILD YOUR ARMS by @gym__fitness__ig _ The keys to building bigger arms are not much different than most other muscle groups. _ 1. Train your arms 2-3x per week and aim to perform 10-20 sets weekly (for biceps and triceps). _ 2. Heavy compound lifts should be the meat of your workouts. Start off with heavy chin ups or close grip bench press and then move on to the smaller isolation lifts for more volume. _ 3. Progressive Overload: When it comes to building muscle—biceps or otherwise—there is one thing for certain: it’s not going to happen unless you get progressively stronger. I don’t care how dialed in your nutrition is or how consistently you’re hitting the weight room, if you’re not stimulating growth through new stress, you’re not going to build muscle tissue. _ 4. Use the muscles. Avoid swinging and jerking and focus on controlled pushing and pulling. _ 5. Curls for the girls (and guys)💪🏼🥵 Make the most of your bicep movements👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 1️⃣Momentum- take a seat❗️ slow down your movement❗️ drop your weight‼️ Let go of your ego and focus on the MOVEMENT, no one really cares what weight your curling, you look like an idiot trying to curl something way beyond your strength. (Sorry just honest, I used to be that guy) 2️⃣volume- your upper body will not grow if you don’t train it. I love a push/pull/leg training split because it’s very manageable to hit all parts of the body equally over the week twice. Whilst a lot of pull movements will work your biceps, I enjoy incorporating direct bicep movements at the end of my session to really work them🥵 3️⃣EAT- you need to be in a caloric surplus to gain muscle, This includes all the macronutrients.🍔 - My favourite bicep exercises have to be dumbbell curl variations (play around with what movements you enjoy- I would personally choose a dumbbell curl over a hammer curl anyday but I know some people love hammer curls, I just find them more awkward). I find cable movements for bicep training too easy to “cheat” on as such (which doesn’t mean they’re BAD- you just have to be more careful) and I find barbell curls cause my stronger limb to take over, and over time this could lead to muscle and strength imbalances 😥. So for this I almost always stick to the basics and go with dumbbells 💪🏼 - Another great addition to your training could be to drop the weight and immediately continue on to another set with this reduced weight. FACT: girls need to train arms too! 💪🏽 No body part should be omitted when it comes to building a well balanced physique! This applies whether your goal is to build muscle mass or lose body fat. Training your arms will aid in developing symmetry and having aesthetic proportions between the upper and lower body! Triceps are fundamental in the execution of push movements: (chest and shoulders exercises) Biceps on the other hand aid in performing pull movements (back exercises) Swipe ➡️ to see 2 of my favorite arm exercises: 1. Bicep cable curls: great for isolating the bicep peak. Be sure to use a weight that allows you to squeeze the bicep at the top of the movement for 1-2 seconds and slowly bring the weight back down Key word: CONTROL! 2. V bar tricep push downs: I use these to isolate the lateral head of the tricep. Just like with the bicep curls, the key here is to get a slow contraction and squeeze at the bottom.
