Sotto Forma Di, paper on canvas, 48” x 48”
I created this piece for a group exhibit with large format requirements. Feb. 20 opening at UVA’s Darden Business School-more details to come.
On process: my original concept (2/10) worked but never felt like enough of a creative push, despite multiple iterations. With discouragement came the reminder to just. keep. going. Start over, ten times. Play.
Eventually I turned to the paper cutout scraps piled on my floor & realized that I loved these random, colorless shapes more than their inverse images I was working with. It’s quite an about-face creatively but also very instinctive and intuitive. I’m excited to explore this further.
3-10/10 are some of my fave images & works collected over the last year—informative, in retrospect. (6-Noguchi; 8-Dorothea Rockburne; 9-Tara Donovan; 10-de Kooning)
