First time with @amctheatres
and their movie subscription. I forgot theatres could be so nice, felt like I needed earplugs for the movie!
Watched A Star is Born, finally!! Thoroughly enjoyable but also some confusion.
Pros: omg the songs are amazing! Lady Gaga is incredible, and I really liked Bradley Cooper's songs too. The songs were definitely a highlight of the movie for me, and made a great impact during the movie (I can still feel Lady Gaga's voice on my spine and in my chest!)
The movie did a great job of balancing the big, high drama moments and thrills of performance with intimate, personal scenes that brought you into their world.
I liked that Lady Gaga's character was someone who could navigate the world herself, set boundaries, and stand on her own.
Lastly, I so appreciate the way this movie showed and delved a bit into male emotionality.
Cons: there seemed to be several pieces of information and threads that weren't fully integrated (spoiler alert!) like his tinnitus-- what was the affect of that on his career? Also, maybe I just didn't catch this, but where did they end up living? 👀 and I get that Lady Gaga's character is completely in adoration with her husband, but later on in the movie I'm confused why she's resigned and passive aggressively angry with his substance use but seemingly otherwise enabling it, versus her initial boundary setting earlier on. Didn't she say she knew the dangers of abuse? Where was her wariness in all his impulsive moves on their relationship? Also the brother still feels very much a mystery, and I wish I'd gotten more about the sibling relationship and development through the course of the movie.
Oh shoot, that got long. Just lots of questions, and lots of really enjoyable aspects! I'm off to listen to the soundtrack for the next three months~
