I tried to read this on my own. Three times. And all three times I never got past the first chapter. The way I was going, the final season of the show would air before I even got past the first book! 😱🤣So I caved and borrowed the audiobook. All I have to say is that GRRM is one hell a wordy author. Hearing his detailed words being read to me as I drive has helped me visualize his story even more. #gameofthrones#audiobook#books#nerdygirl#springbreak2018

I just finished Stay With Me for #mmdbookclub this month - This is one I’m definitely going to have to think about for a while!
BOOK REVIEW: I listened to the audiobook which was read by author, Fannie Flagg, who has a charming southern accent. The whole thing was adorable and heartwarming.
Thematically and structurally, it reminds me a lot of Fried Green Tomatoes. I never read the book (also written by Flagg), but I saw the movie. The protagonist is a contemporary who learns about herself by finding out about past events. She’s a humble 60-year-old lady struggling to feel relevant because she lacks a flashy life. Even though she is clearly fictional, I think a lot of people reach her age wondering about the significance of their lives. Her struggle seems comparatively minor, but because of that, she feels less entitled to it. So, her true suffering is not being allowed access to her own pain.
I don’t remember the details from Friend Green Tomatoes, but in this case, the past characters are based on the true history of Women Airforce Service Pilots who served in WWII (WASPs). I’d heard of the WASPs before, but reading this book gave me an opportunity fully appreciate these women. They provided a necessary service during the war, and they opened the door for future women pilots.
Given the very real horrors that we’re facing today, this kind of book might seem trite, but this was a pick-me-up for me. It takes place in a safe world that is looking back on WWII. Flagg reminds us that during that war, most people were terrified of the possibilities they faced, just like we are today, but they got through it.
Fall into Elsa’s world of magical kingdoms, superheroes, and colorful wounded characters as she tries to navigate her 7 year old self (almost 8) on a quest for answers, from letters left by her beloved, cantankerous granny. Love #fredrickbackman stories #book6of2018#audiobook ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Agh!!! I didn’t think I’d ever find a book that hit me the way @thehateyougive did but then I found Dear Martin by Nic Stone which gave another perspective and more insight into the racial injustice and inequality so many face. In a sense this book went even deeper into a story similar to that written by Angie Thomas in The Hate You Give as Justyce the protagonist faces challenges his white peers can’t understand. The subtle prejudice, blatant racism, economic bias and injustice and warped system that still condemns men based on the color of their skin hits just as hard in this all too real story. It’s a story similar to the headlines we see and one we all have an opinion on but gives a point of view that few can truly posses. This is a chance to see it from the other angle. I am not a cryer... this book made me cry and it has stayed with me. It’s haunting and smart. Original and well written and if you don’t get at least a little woke by the time you’ve finished then you are beyond help. This book is great and another I want everyone to read. In a world where privilege exists but rights are denied this book is an educational tool and one I hope is used and shared. #dearmartin#nicstone#bookreview#bibliophile#bookworm#bookaddict#audiobook

This week I dove into books... trying to get as much information as possible. Between autobiographies, doctor’s accounts (with permission and guidance from the patient), work books, and reference books with real life examples I’m trying to absorb as much information as I can.
Time for a walk with my boy! Got my headphones to listen to my FAV AUDIOBOOK EVER "Be Obsessed or Be Average" (OMG this book is LIFE!!!)
... Took my calorie burning thermogenic, got my fat burning coffee, I'm ready to get fit 💪 and enjoy the view on this beautiful island 🌴

Last week I felt like I needed a bit of a confidence boost, so I decided to try “You Are A Badass” by Jen Sincero... And wow, I was not expecting so much religion/universal energy stuff, it was pretty heavy handed. So I gave up and tried “Girl, Wash Your Face” instead and it was so much more enjoyable! The content is nothing new: value yourself, value your body, value your time, value your dreams and goals... But Rachel Hollis’s conversational tone (and she reads the audiobook herself) is very uplifting, so I really enjoyed it! Totally confidence boost!
Do you read self-help books? I used to think it was all junk (without having read any, of course 🙄), but I’m finding that some books feature very interesting stories and anecdotes that I can *gasp* actually learn from! 😂
What are some of your favorite self-help books? I’m also looking for recommendations!

I love books but for now D. is devoted to “in-mouth analysis” of anything I’m reading so I’m listening. And to listening I have a special sentiment as my beloved grandmother who lived door to door with me in my parents’ house for many years would listen to audiobooks all the time. I appreciate many apps but Audible so far is the winner when it comes to smart baby books. And John Holt really sounds smart. This book has changed my perspective on so many things. I highly recommend it.
