Real life isn’t always social media worthy but it’s real! Embrace it!! ⠀ ⠀ This is me! Pregnant, sun burnt, messy bun, and in my dad’s old flannel shirt. You won’t always seen me done up because that’s not REAL and it’s not me! I live in workout clothes, my hair is in a messy bun 99% of the time, and my make up is minimal (if I haven’t sweated it off!) ⠀ ⠀ Just be you!! Do you!! Don’t try to be anyone else but the perfect person that you are!!
There are only two ways to learn- wisdom and failure. ⠀ ⠀ This was part of the message from church yesterday and it just struck a cord with me. I have feared failure most of my life. If I didn’t know going into something that I was gonna be good at it, I wouldn’t even do it. How crazy is that?! But how many of you relate? ⠀ ⠀ Failure is a part of life. It’s one of the most beautiful parts of life because it is through failure that we get to learn, it is through failure that we get to grow. ⠀ ⠀ I have to fail in life! This does not mean that I am a failure though, which is a big difference. I GET to fail today. And I fail on almost a daily basis and I am (usually!) grateful for that! ⠀ ⠀ Don’t rob yourself from one of the greatest gifts by being afraid to fail. As John C. Maxwell says “fail forward!” Use your failures to propel you forward!!
Physical health is just as important as mental health. I grew up working out a lot. I was a competitive dancer for 22 years. If I wasn’t dancing I still worked out at home. As the years have gone on and my health has changed I find it so much harder to work out. One of my main challenges with my autoimmune is pain and bad fatigue. If you are like me, then you understand the struggle to keeping up with workouts. Pain can be really hard to over come. Yes, I said over come. When you are in a constant amount of pain most days you have to over come it, not wait for it to go away. Fatigue is also a huge battle. When your body wants to give up, but you know you can’t. Recently I have been in a flare up. It’s so hard to feel like you are getting some where when you feel like you are backtracking. Don’t give up on yourself. Trust me I know what it feels like to what to just curl up in a ball and scream! To simply feel defeated. I know how hard it is to get up every day not knowing what your future holds, but working to improve anything you can. All the little things you do that just seem dumb, they really do help you! So be proud that you stuck to your guns and got through the workout, be proud that stayed on your health regimen all day, be proud you got out of that bed and decided to fight another day, whatever you do be proud you did it! It is not easy, I know that. Some people will never understand, I know that too. That doesn’t mean you let it knock you down. You have to keep getting up no mater what. One thing I have learned is we aren’t alone! Lean on your support system when you need it and keep moving forward. My moto is “I’ve got this, we’ve got this, nothing can break me.” I promise you, you are stronger than you think!

Hustle isn’t just about doing the things you like. It means doing the things you don’t enjoy so you can do the things you love! The “pretty” stuff isn’t what will get you where you want to go. And by doing laundry, cleaning the house, taking care of finances, organizing, and taking out the trash, I’m now able to focus on all those things I love! Do the hard stuff FIRST! You can eat all the whole, organic, grass-fed, non-GMO, real food you want. BUT if you aren’t getting the sleep you need, you’re doing yourself a disservice. I tell my clients all the time that sleep is just as important as what they put in to their bodies. Sleep is where our bodies are able detoxify, heal, repair, and clear out the damage and waste. Sleep disturbance has been linked to: 😴decrease performance + productivity 😴decrease in cognitive ability and memory (Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological diseases are greatly impacted by lack of sleep) 😴obesity 😴diabetes 😴immune imbalances 😴hormanal imbalances (endocrine disrupters) You can’t out run a bad diet, and you can’t out perform lack of sleep! Love yourself and the rest will follow. For years I looked to the external world for validation. I sought it in alcohol, men, food, or material possessions. I struggled with always feeling less than, imperfect, not pretty enough, not skinny enough, not smart enough. I was never enough, there was always something more that I needed to be doing or become. There was a hole inside of me that no amount of food, alcohol, or sex could fill even though I kept trying. This week I was told that I was perfect. Perfect, a word that we would never use to describe ourselves because society tells us that we need to look a certain way, fit in to a certain mold in order to be "perfect". Perfection is reserved for the rich, famous, and beautiful. At first, I tried to brush the comment off but it got me thinking. I am perfect. There is nothing "more" that I need to do or become right now in this moment. I am exactly the way God wants me to be, so why would I change it? Why do we all feel this need to manipulate that which is already perfect? Since we are all perfect, all perfectly created and molded, why do we continue to treat ourselves negatively. We shovel junk into our bodies, but more than that, we poison our minds with negativity and self-criticizing thoughts. Today we have a choice to be our own worst critic or our best friend. At Kaia we are talking about how our body is our bestie and we have to treat it as such. If you wouldn't say something to your best friend, why would you say it about yourself. The mind is so powerful, it can influence everything that we do, think, are. A positive mind can make us unstoppable, but a negative mind can keep is sick and stuck. When we show ourselves love, compassion, and care FIRST, that then trickles out to the rest of the world. When we love ourselves, we love others, we don't judge or criticize others because we see them for the beautiful PERFECT creations that they are. So again I say, love yourself and the rest will follow. Everything you need is already inside of you.

First meal in the new house! Still need to actually go grocery shopping but I had enough things on hand to put together an easy meal! Needing all the fuel to get through this crazy move!! On the menu: Kale and broccoli slaw with avocado, grilled chicken, pumpkin seeds, and lemon dressing. With a side of jicama and hummus!! Took less time to put this together than ordering at the drive through!! Remember being prepared isn’t half the battle, it IS the battle!

I didn't trust or love my body for years. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Like, how am I supposed to trust my body when it's LITERALLY attacking itself...!? ...and that must mean it hates me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I second-guessed myself; not knowing if what I was eating would hurt me or give me more symptoms. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I felt clueless about what my body needed and I didn't know where to start. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I still had occassional symptoms, flare-ups, and it was all pretty OK-ish. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And this had become my *normal*. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👉Ya feel me? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And then I had a flare-up really scare me awake: because it wasn't caused by accidental gluten exposure. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I found myself hell-bent on finding the root cause. I knew it was tied to my diet and other food allergies. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👉The root cause: a leaky gut that wasn't healing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was on a mission. And some days still felt like 1 step forward, 2 steps back. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ While on this mission, I learned to really listen to my body...not unlike trying to understand a screaming toddler. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And as I listened, I shifted my beliefs surrounding my illness. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I began to treat my body like I would care for anyone else who is injured or sick: with love, kindness, compassion, and steadfast determination to see them supported and well. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I invested my time, money and effort in my body. I put myself first...before anyone else, which might sound selfish, but if I wanted to help and support others, I wanted to become the best version of ME. NEVER GIVE UP ON YOURSELF!! That is a major lesson I have learnt over the past year and it seems more relevant than ever this week!! - My fatigue has taken over my life this week. I have got in from work and been asleep by 6pm and slept till morning. I have been told daily I look like s$#t and I have found it really hard to concentrate! When I feel that way I can get self critical, thinking I've wasted my nights, I've cancelled plans and get self conscious thinking everyone can tell I'm not 100%.....but it's me, I manage the fatigue as best I can and I don't make excuses for it, I just adjust my lifestyle and diet and take action for it. - So yes I've not trained because I've listened to my body and allowed it to rest but I know how much exercise helps my fatigue and my health....so tonight I was determined to get in and do my workout....no I couldn't be bothered but my mindset made me do it! Yummy dinner at @true_food_kitchen ! Turkey burger with no bun or cheese and a side of kale salad! Some of y’all don’t know me, but eating out used to be incredible hard for me. If I wasn’t in complete control of what I was eating I would lose it or just no give a f**k and over do it. R U N N I N G  A N D  H A S H I M O T O S __ My diagnosis with Hashimotos actually came about when I was training for a marathon.  I knew something wasn't right as I was running A LOT and gaining weight and feeling fatigued.  __ So what's the deal with running or exercise on thyroid function __ Thyroid hormones are important regulators of energy metabolism and may influence energy processes during physical exercise.  __ Studies demonstrate a transient change in thyroid hormones during intense physical performance, most studies agree that these changes are reflective of negative energy balance during strenuous exercise __ Research: 1️⃣Thyroid function was investigated in 24 young military cadets participating in a 5 d ranger training course- Results: A significant correlation was found between the increase in rT3 and decrease in T3.  TSH decreased during the first day and remained low throughout the course. Thyroid function is strongly affected by prolonged physical exercise and a negative energy balance __ 2️⃣Affect of different intensity levels was investigated in 60 male athletes at 45% (low) 70% (moderate), and 90% (high) of max heart rate.  Results: Maximal aerobic exercise greatly affects the level of circulating thyroid hormones _ 3️⃣A recent study found that during exercise TSH levels changed from 1.69 at 45%, 1.78 at 70%, and 1.89 at 90% HR max - exercise changes things acutely, but not a ton __ 4️⃣After 3 months of daily 1 h physical exercise- Serum TSH was found to be significantly decreased, Serum T3 and T4 were also found to be significantly raised in regular exercise group __ My Takeaways: Exercise is important in overall health - the key is balance and consistency. Usually I loooooove military balls with my beloved. It’s always been an occasion for me to doll up and feel pretty. This time it was a little different. I actually dreaded going to the ball. This year has been a struggle for me and my health. My thyroid has just not been able to love me back even after me giving it so much attention. I treat it with absolute kindness but it’s just continues to be a little bitch. I’m sick all the time, I weigh more now than I did after I had my baby, and it’s just an all out struggle for me. Last night I was self conscience the whole night and honestly not able to fully enjoy myself. And all because of my weight..... honestly?! What am I teaching my children?! Why do I let this continue to affect me?! One day, I will conquer this weight thing again, but I’d love to learn not to give a shit in the mean time. I have taken time to work on me. I have learned through my 37 years of life that I’m smart and I’m beautiful, I’m kind, I’m a great mommy, I’m a damn good time, and people like me, so why do I let one thing define me?!!!! I obviously still have some work to do; many things to conquer and accomplish personally. I constantly work on myself spiritually, mentally, physically and practice lots of self care and this is just one more thing I have to work on and learn to deal with. I was there for most my adult life, I thought I had to accept it. There were many times after I had eaten in a restaurant I couldn't leave because I knew I needed to be close to a toilet. I have had the embarrassment of running off to get to the toilet, the desperation of not wanting to go in a public toilet, the pain which cripples u like no other. The bloatedness, the tiredness after eating, the anxiety.... seriously that was my life. December 1- 7 is Crohn’s & Colitis Awareness Week😀 __ 🌿In honor of that I wanted to present some data that was recently published in October looking at Cannabis for Crohn’s disease __ 🌿The researchers studied 46 patients with moderately severe Chrohn’s for 8 weeks, either receiving cannnabis oil or placebo __ 🌿Results showed a significant reduction in Crohn's disease symptoms in the cannabis oil group compared to placebo __ 🌿Also, 65% of the cannabis oil group met "strict criteria for clinical remission" of Crohn's disease, compared with only 35 percent of the placebo group __ 🌿The group that received the cannabis oil also showed meaningful improvements in measures of life quality, compared with placebo __ 🌿What’s interesting is that the beneficial effect of cannabis on Crohn's disease was not the result of alleviating the gut inflammation that characterizes the condition. __ 🌿People have used cannabis, or marijuana, for medicinal purposes for thousands of years. __ 🌿The plant contains chemicals called cannabinoids that have specific effects in different parts of the body, including the immune system, the brain, and the rest of the central nervous system. __ 🌿We know that cannabinoids can have profound anti-inflammatory effects, but this study indicates that the improvement in symptoms may NOT be related to these anti-inflammatory properties __ ✨What are your thoughts or experiences? Researchers have long suspected that the benefits of exercise extend down to the cellular level, but know relatively little about which exercises help cells rebuild key organelles that deteriorate with aging. __ ✴️A new study found that exercise -- and in particular high-intensity interval training HIIT in aerobic exercises such as biking and walking -- caused cells to make more proteins for their energy-producing mitochondria and their protein-building ribosomes, effectively stopping aging at the cellular level. __ ✴️There's no substitute for these exercise programs when it comes to delaying the aging process, these findings cannot be done by any medicine __ ✴️Volunteers who were 18-30 years old and "older" volunteers who were 65-80 years old broke into different exercise programs: one where the volunteers did high-intensity interval biking and one where the volunteers did strength training with weights __ ✴️They found that while strength training was effective at building muscle mass, high-intensity interval training yielded the biggest benefits at the cellular level __ ✴️The younger volunteers in the interval training group saw a 49% increase in mitochondrial capacity, and the older volunteers saw an even more dramatic 69% increase __ ✴️As we age, the energy-generating capacity of our cells' mitochondria slowly decreases __ ✴️Exercise also appeared to boost the ribosomes' ability to build mitochondrial proteins. The most impressive finding was the increase in muscle protein content.
