I use a @blendtec Twister Jar - perfect for nut butters and coconut crusts. I changed a lot of my habits to be able to justify my expense on this shift in my daily habits, and it’s 10/10 been the best choice. 1. I never get any drinks in plastic. Ever. Not to-go, or at the store. 2. I don’t get coffee out unless it’s a date with a friend or the wife. When I do, I order for there. When that’s not an option I refuse the lid, and only go for the paper cup. If they don’t have paper I just don’t get it at all. 3. I don’t buy smoothies, juices, of any other supplement drinks now. I used to get these things all the time. I find that NingXia replaces a lot of those and that making my smoothies at home is just better. 4. I also don’t buy myself as many needless art supplies. Now, this is totally different and might not make sense, but let’s get real here. I used to go out and get art supplies ALL THE TIME. I wouldn’t just get supplies for projects, I would just buy new fancy thing, restock for future use, get enough to make 30 projects. While I still buy art supplies, I just don’t drop $100s a month anymore. It’s a way to justify spending on my health and that’s really more important. I can’t make art at 70 if I’m not alive at 70.

Trying to trick my body into thinking I’m splurging. In all seriousness though, many of you may not know this, but I suffer from an auto-immune condition called Hashimoto’s. I first found out about the condition about 5 years ago, there is no cure or medication you can take for it. Essentially it’s when your body attacks the thyroid that you naturally produce as if it’s a foreign substance. It can be maintained with some lifestyle changes such as eating a very strict diet, but stress, lack of sleep, and environmental factors can also cause chronic pain, fatigue, anxiety and depression. Lately, I’ve been working with a few clients in the Health and Wellness industry - and can’t help but feel that this is the universe’s way of telling me to take better care of myself. I’m challenging myself to go full #autoimmunepaleo for the next couple of months. That means my diet will consist of meat, fish, veggies and fruit. (Read: no dairy, carbs, processed foods, sugar, alcohol or coffee 😳) Is it daunting? Hell yes! But I figure if I can launch a business and have a baby in the same year and keep both alive, I can do just about anything 🙌🏻🙏🏻 Send me your good juju, peeps. Last night was a dream. ⠀⠀ One of those moments you wish you could push pause. ⠀⠀ I drove my son down to San Diego for his first Padres game at Petco Park. ⠀⠀ In the beginning of this year, I could not handle driving 5 minutes to the grocery store to buy food for my family most days. ⠀⠀ My autoimmune disease left me feeling completely broken, physically and mentally. ⠀⠀ Then, I had enough. I put my head down, and got to work on my nutrition, wellness choices, and most of all, my mindset. I became my own health advocate. ⠀⠀ I made healthy choices day after day after day. Even when I could not see any benefits. Even when I felt like giving up. Even when my body craved my fave junk foods. ⠀⠀ Eventually, it all paid off. ⠀⠀ Somewhere in my wellness journey, I realized I needed to find new dreams and goals. So I did. Some seemed impossible at the time. ⠀⠀ One of my new dreams is to take my son to see a baseball game at all 30 MLB stadiums. He loves loves loves baseball. To play it. To watch it. To talk about it. ⠀⠀ On my bad days, when I could no longer play catch with him outside, I was broken hearted. Then I realized I could lay down and watch a baseball game with him while I rested. So we did. Many days. We’ve watched many, many games together this year. ⠀⠀ Last night we watched one live at ballpark #2 on our list of 30. It was an unforgettable night complete with a game ball, a win for the Padres, and lots of memories with my boy. ⠀⠀ You guys, do not be afraid to dream new dreams. Set new goals. ⠀⠀ Even if right now you are sick in bed everyday, broken hearted, and feeling defeated. Even if your condition is lifelong and incurable. ⠀⠀ Dream anyway. ⠀⠀ Then put your head down, be your own health advocate, and get to work. Rest, eat right, take care of yourself, and cultivate a positive mindset. ⠀⠀ It is okay if you do not know how to do those things. I did not either. Learn. Try. ⠀⠀ No one else is going to do it for you. ⠀⠀ When you do not see immediate results, or you have a setback, don’t you dare quit! ⠀⠀ You keep going. ⠀⠀ Day after day after day. ⠀⠀ It will take time. ⠀⠀ I believe in you! ⠀⠀ You’ve got this 👊🏻. Oh hey there! Happy Thursday. It’s a selfie day for me, because one of my kids dropped my phone in the sink yesterday while they were washing their hands🤦‍♀️. My phone is basically working yay 🙌 but then when I went to take regular pictures I realized that only the selfie function on my phone is working 😜. . Stress can have a huge impact on our health. I’ve always been the kind of person that “performs well under pressure.” I’m realizing that a stressful career, way too much caffeine, poor eating choices and terrible sleep habits are probably what triggered my DNA to respond with Hashimotos. . So today, rather than freak out over a partially broken phone, I’m thankful I have a phone and making the most of it. . Finally got a chance to try out a recipe from the 30 Minute Meals for the Paleo AIP Cookbook, and it was a hit! The Apple Cinnamon Chicken over Smashed Sweet Potatoes took 45 minutes from prep to finish, but it was worth it—and it made leftovers too! I subbed raisins since my store didn’t have dried cranberries without added sugar, and added coconut butter to the sweet potatoes. If you have the cookbook, which recipe should I try next?
The original plan was Barbacoa, but I didn't read my recipe thoroughly enough whilst planning and didn't realize it had to be in the IP for over 2 hours 😳 So quick change of plans. Grilled Pork chop with reintro black pepper, carrots with reintro butter, and cauliflower rice with coconut aminos and garlic (supposed to be tomorrow's meal)! . .. ... On the upside, this was delicious and the barbacoa is already cooked for tomorrow 😁

I took this picture in May. ✨ I had just finished cleaning my house. It had taken me all day. And I was exhausted. Normally cleaning my house should only take about an hour. But I remember feeling proud of myself. ✨ I was proud of myself because I had spent most of my “days off” in April going to doctors appointments and spending the rest of the day in “recovery” (a.k.a- watching Hulu and reading) so I would have enough energy to go to work the next day. ✨ Today I totally slayed my to-do list. I knocked down dry wall, cleaned, mowed, grocery shopped and walked my dog among other things. I am so joyful that I had the energy to complete all these tasks. Never again will I take energy for granted. ✨ The things is that I gave each of the days described above my absolute best. During each of these days I wanted to do all the things. Today I did. The other days, I didn’t. ✨ One of the hardest things for me about feeling unwell was that my expectations for myself didn’t dwindle with my energy levels. I had to learn to give myself a ton of grace, and ignore the feeling that I was being perceived as lazy. I was doing my best. I’m still doing my best. Which is all I can ever expect of myself. ✨ I know that in the future everyday will look a little different. Somedays, like today, will be full of joyful accomplishment. Somedays will probably be full of Netflix and snuggling with my puppy, because that will be my best that day. I will give myself grace on those days. ✨ Strive for your best everyday. Realize it will look different throughout time. Give yourself grace when its not what you expect. Put one foot in front of the other. I find that people who teach yoga come from primarily 5 different schools of ambition 1) Discipline - they seek order in the chaos 2) They are a dancer, athlete or gymnast and their body can do cool things and it's a natural draw 3) Recovering from eating disorders, body dysmorphia, poor body image or addiction and serve as an example to others 4) Someone told them that they look like a yoga teacher and should teach 5) Illness or injury- getting their body back after chronic illness or physical recovery etc. And of course there are a plethora of other reasons, but most fall into one of these 5 areas. Totally quoting my new favorite movie, but no truer words could mark where I am today. The struggle is real, and just because I’ve been able to improve my quality of life by following the autoimmune protocol, doesn’t mean the symptoms & flare ups completely go away. Chicken Fried Rice – Gluten Free, Soy Free, Dairy Free, Corn Free, and Wheat Free. 4-6 servings. Okay you guys, this recipe is a Wednesday WIN! If you enjoy hitting up P.F. Changs 🥢as much as I do, then this is for YOU! 🤗 *Please note, this is NOT a Paleo recipe, but there are modifications that can be made to make it Paleo: i.e. no rice, or substitute the white rice with riced cauliflower. What you’ll need: 2 chicken breasts (cut into small cubes or strips) 1/2 bag @365bywholefoods Organic peas and carrots 1oz diced yellow onion 3 eggs Olive oil Sea Salt 1 bag of @tastybite Organic Basmati Rice (90 minute instant cook) @coconutsecretofficial Coconut Aminos – Teriyaki Sauce (I cannot recommend this sauce enough. It tastes like the real deal without the high sodium and soy). How to make: Cook chicken in skillet or wok, add a pinch of sea salt and 1tbsp of Teriyaki sauce – set to the side. Sauté onion in ¼ tsp of olive oil until golden brown - set to the side. Whisk eggs in a bowl, pour into skillet or wok, scramble and cook. Add diced onion, peas and carrots, microwaved Basmati rice, 1 tsp of olive oil, a pinch of sea salt, and 2 tbsp of Teriyaki sauce to skillet or wok and mix with the scrambled eggs. Listened to my body this morning and stayed in bed 2 hours longer. I originally planned to get up early and hit the gym for a 7-8am workout... well, I went to bed later than I thought I would and I felt really tired last night, so I made the decision to set the alarm later. I woke up on my own (a bit before my alarm) feeling a bit better. Here’s the thing: I could’ve pushed myself and made myself get up and go to the gym. I could’ve pushed myself through an intense workout like I had originally planned. But sometimes tuning into what your body actually needs is more important. Hydration 💧and accountability . Hydration is crucial to health, we all know that, yet who out there manages to drink their daily water requirements? I try really hard. My @chillysbottles flamingo bottle goes everywhere with me (isn’t it gorgeous?!) and it’s often complimented with a couple of drops of citrus oil (lemon, lime, grapefruit or orange). I don’t find water boring, but a citrus flavoured water is so much more tasty. . But why am I talking about accountability? From a recent post, you’ll know I’m an obliger (@gretchenrubin ‘s 4 tendencies on habit formation). I have regularly failed in the 4 years to send my kids to school with their water bottle. This year, I’m class rep for the PTA, and my kids have gone to school every day with their water bottle. As a class rep, I send regular reminder emails to the other parents, so surely I have a responsibility to behave as I say we all should?!? Unknowingly when I volunteered to class rep, I actually created for myself a very powerful form of external accountability that I need! . It’s an immensely powerful tool to understand yourself and those around you and it’s a key tool to my health coaching practice to help people form their new health habits.
