It may have been a long and busy day, but it was definitely a successful day!! I really really hope that all of these girls were inspired to live a life full of adventure, whether that's in aviation or not!! Thank you to everyone who helped throughout the day, we couldn't have done it without you!! Until next year, ladies!
Tomorrow is Girls in Aviation Day! Normally, I don't get too involved in various "day of.." type of events, but this one is special because it affords me the chance to inspire the next generation of AvGeeks! I've helped out with this event the past 2 years and every year it grows larger and larger! This year, one of our Assistant Chief Pilots has entrusted me with running the Lewis portion of our event tomorrow. Every year, Lewis hosts the Chicago Chapter of Women in Aviation, International for Girls in Aviation Day. Tomorrow, we are expecting to have roughly 170 girls join us for a day camp where they can learn and interact with Industry Professionals, as well as learn how to preflight one of our airplanes and have a go at our simulators! As exciting as all of this is, I would be lying if I said that I wasn't slightly terrified of helping run such a massive event! I am going to have some awesome volunteers and this WAI Chapter is amazing, but that is still A LOT of people!! I've never viewed myself as a leader of sorts, so it will definitely be a new challenge. I hope that each of these young women are inspired by the things they see and the people they meet tomorrow! It is truly my honor to play such a tiny role in their lives! (Even if it does induce a small amount of anxiety, lol!) Stay tuned for pictures throughout the day tomorrow!!
