Sit ups and crunches for core strength right 💪?!?! When performed correctly👍! Traditional sit ups/crunches can not only aggravate back pain but it can CAUSE‼️ low back injury. 🚫 Traditional sit ups cause excessive load into the discs and joints by flexing and compressing the spine. When combined with high repetition, it creates an environment for the disc to fail. ⠀ -⠀ ♦️The Modified Sit Up ♦️. Same starting point as a traditional sit up. Hands to the sides, flat on the floor, keep chin slightly tucked toward neck. To execute, contract abdominals and slide hands toward feet a few inches, keeping low and mid back on the ground. Ok to have shoulders and head come off the ground a few inches. Sciatica is usually the result of a disc injury in the lower vertebrae and the disc injury is the result of poor movement patterns and lack of body awareness. MOMS - Have You Had Back Pain 😩 But Want Stronger Abs?? Then read this! 💪🏼 . Most everyone has heard that if you have lower back pain, then you need strong abdominals or a “strong core” to help ease that pain. Most of the time, you see sit ups done with knees bent and/or feet hooked under something. ❓❓❓“Why can’t we have somebody hold our feet down? Why aren’t your legs bent?” . Keeping the legs out straight and not held down forces you to use your abdominal muscles to sit up rather than allowing your hip flexors on the front of your hips to help pull you up. The hip flexors are stronger in most people so they take over for the weaker abs. Holding your feet down allows the hip flexors to kick in faster and stronger, thus decreasing the work your abs are doing. 🔑🔑🔑🔑🔑 Keeping the legs straight helps keep the stress off your lower back because curling up with bent legs creates a pivot point in the back where all the force goes. With high incidence rates of low back pain, we don’t need to do anything that will risk causing that unnecessarily. 😩😩😩😩 So here’s some modifications of how to make sit ups easier to harder as you get stronger.  Phase 1 - reach with your hands towards your feet and curl your head and trunk up to sitting.  Phase 2 - change arm position to crossed over your chest with hands on or near shoulders.  Phase 3 - move hands up to top of head. Just be careful not to jerk on your head and cause neck pain! 😩 Moving your arms higher up towards your head as you progress increases the amount of body weight your abs have to lift!  So try these variations and get busy building some abdominal strength with less risk of lower back pain! 💬 Let me know what you think about it below!

I like to have a veggie omelette in the morning with a side of slow digesting carbs like oatmeal etc.⁣ ✅Morning workouts, something as simple as yoga, mobility or a quick cardio or lifting session can kickstart your mood and focus for the day. Enjoy the endorphin rush all day long 😈⁣ ✅Make a TODO list early in the day and choose the three most important things you need to get done. Work on those tasks with work-break cycles and perform your stretches between your cycle.⁣ ✅ Maximize productivity by removing distractions from your desk and avoiding mindless web browsing. Keep your phone away while working and wifi off unless you need it to research the task at hand.⁣ ✅ Take frequent breaks and get your body moving. Go for a walk, get coffee etc. The key is to rest your eyes from screen-time and get moving 🚶‍♂️⁣ ✅ Alternate between periods of sitting and standing throughout the day. I like to alternate depending on the task for example I like to read sitting and write standing. ⁣ <> One off drills that help relieve symptoms are a nice quick fix, but keep in mind they are just that. DRIVING WITH GOOD POSTURE & AVOIDING BACK PAIN. If you follow me, you already know that the number one reason for back-pain in a wide variety of situations, is usually poorr posture. Many of us drive around without knowing how to or applying good driving posture. We unbalance our shoulders, setting them up for injury, we round our backs, hurt our necks, etc. After the last driving video, I got requests to put up one with proper descriptions on setting up good posture in your car. So here it is! Pretty simple; judge your position by putting your wrists on the steering wheel, and then think about pulling your shoulders back into their sockets to straighten your spine. Adjust your seat so that your back can be straight, and use a KnotJob™️ so you can maintain that s-curve our backs have naturally. Remember that no position is good for the body if unchanged, so move around and get out of your car seat whenever possible. Thank you for watching and sharing my videos.
