: I was 17 when I moved from Kerala to Bangalore for further studies with list of my Mommy warnings and two of them underlined were,”Dont at all talk to girls who wear sleeveless and don’t mingle with boys having long hairs." Probably she thought, they are gay, something.
I grew up with those preconceived prejudices, like in most places of India. You know back then, once I got to see a girl smoking for the first time and I was disturbed for months as I have been raised with a very conditioned outlook, like a girl smoking is absolutely unacceptable.
Eventually I moved to various cities and realized, people are so bigoted all around.Once I was in Delhi,I accidentally rubbed of my shoulder with a lady in a crowded place, she just blasted at me with swear words, as if I intentionally molested her.
I have been in Mumbai too, and judged for speaking in Hindi, English, for accents. There is an air of arrogance with English communication. It might not be true for all ,and don’t want to generalize for everyone, but quite a large audience feel that way.
And I am back to Namma Bengaluru where I received a sorry when I accidentally, rubbed off with a girl.
You speak in Kannada, English, Hindi or even sign language dude, no one cares, people are fine as long you are able to communicate, language is just a medium.
A girl isn’t judged for short dresses, late nights, alcohol etc. just because she is a girl. You know Bangalore even have had a Gay pub since 80s and no hullabaloo for that.
You just be what you are, do what you like and you are accepted without any preconceived notions and you so easily blend in, and it becomes part of you too.
I just love being myself here and accept people for who they are.I din't get a vibe like this anywhere else. Its only in #nammabengaluru
