Banh Mi with all the fixings! There was a line down the street in HCMC for these delicious Banh Mi that they churn out with impressive speed. I was the only person in line that only ordered one sandwich. Lesson learned! It isn’t often you get to have “pork floss” on your sandwich. Swipe over to see all the photos.

The day I landed, I had a few priorities straight- check out the most well known Banh Mi in Toronto- Nguyen Hong's. Now I'm no Banh Mi expert but for the 2 weeks I spent in Vietnam I must've had at least 25-30 of these, analysing and breaking down each one even if it only cost a fraction of the price it costs here.
Straight up, it's good but not great. I ordered the cold cut, which by the way, is the most common style to find on the streets of Vietnam. It still upholds the true essence of a banh mi- but it lacks a certain oomph. The baguette is not the- crusty outside, soft inside it should be, it's plain chewy and not even toasted.
This isn't a hate post, it's still a good banh mi and maybe the other types they have- Lemongrass sausage or Garlic and honey sausage could be way better! I shall find out soon.

Bò cuốn lá lốt- Beef in betel leaves, a very popular dish for Vietnamese and it’s usually eaten with bánh hỏi (small vermicelli) along with fresh herbs and nước mắm (fish sauce). In North Vietnam, especially in my city Hải Phòng , people often put them in Vermicelli soup. I find beef in betel leaves are great bar food, finger food. Come try this on Thursday ONLY between 5-7pm.
