doing banded trap-bar deadlifts with a slow tempo eccentric contraction phase (lowering) and a quick concentric contraction phase (lift) followed by loaded hurdle jumps into a broad jump.
With these two exercises Austin is not only able to help with his overall strength with the controlled tempo of the lift but also work on being more explosive by recruiting more muscles fibers through potentiation.
Austin is a great example of how hard work and dedication will help you achieve your goals. He is only getting started and look forward to seeing what the future holds for this young man!

In order for our load to overlap with our launch, we need to be sure we are loading at the right time. For 95% of hitters, that means the load can’t happen until our center of mass starts moving forward. If you initiate your stride with a negative move or gather, you have make sure your don’t start your load until you have started moving forward. This is a good drill to help hitters delay their load until the right time. The hitter will gather but can’t start their load until I say GO.
Matt has been working hard this off season on cleaning up his bat path and getting more efficient. We have spent a lot of time on the ground (no stride variations). Now that spring training is approaching our focus is to get his rhythm and timing down and getting comfortable in more game like situations. The first couple swings are a little choppy but he was quickly able to smooth it out and it will continue to get better as we work towards the season.

Forward Lunges, probably the least used Lunge variation, but very effective.
These are great for building single-leg strength, quad strength, and deceleration.
Deceleration is something that is so important, but not trained nearly enough. #
Being able to decelerate efficiently is the key to improving hitting and throwing velocity, as well as movement.
To work on deceleration, give this exercise a try.
