Improving your shooting through film!
Shooting is all about feel, rhythm, and fluidity. These are abstract ideas, so the best tangible things, though oversimplified, to consider are footwork, balance, and everything that goes in to the release (hand position, elbow position, where the ball is in the hand, etc.)
Example clip: Matthews hit a spot up 3 on the play before this. As he comes in to the hand off, he seems to be caught off guard by the defender not being present and rather than a smooth inside-outside step in to the shot or a gather dribble, he stutters his feet just slightly, gathers with another outside-inside, and as he’s going to raise up, pulls his right foot back a touch. Though very subtle, this throws off what would have been a very smooth and fluid one dribble pull up
Watching yourself or others have these minor mishaps serves as a great visual learning tool. If you can wrap your mind around what your perfect shot- from stepping in to it all the way through the release- your training and repetitions become that much sharper
There are a bunch of shooting coaches that do amazing work. Chief among them, in my opinion, is @lethalshooter.
