This picture actually totally surprised us and there’s a couple cool things we took away from it that I wanted to share with y’all!
1. What was most crazy to us is how surprised we both were by the difference. The changes happened so gradually over a year that we were shocked to see the comparison in this photo. While we’ve intentionally tried to make healthy long-term lifestyle changes, we aren’t killing ourselves on a fad diet and the effort has felt minimal. We drink on weekends, we get the occasional ice cream cones, we go out to dinner with friends, we pound chips and guac once and a while. But when you let the ups and downs of good and bad weeks level out over the course of the year, you can still see great results!
2. We have turned lifting/working out into a fun thing we do together. It’s much more of a social activity we enjoy together and never feels like a chore. And we also have shifted focus onto challenging our bodies and seeing what they can do rather than being obsessed to look a certain way - that’s just become a fringe benefit. All together this helps remove the guilt of missing a gym day, or the hatred of making time for the gym, and makes it a habit we DON’T give up or let fall off when we do get busy.
3. The people you live with/surround yourself have a huge impact on how healthy your lifestyle will be and you won’t even notice it. Sarah and I have a great pattern of meal-prepping, we’ve shared healthy and easy recipes with each other, and when the one of us has been too busy to meal prep the other picks up the slack. On days when one of us wouldn’t go to the gym, the fact that the other is going ends up getting both of us there! In the moment it seems simple but over the course of year it can make such a cool difference!
4. Fitness is a long game and it will always take time! If you’re having trouble finding motivation to keep working toward your long term fitness goals, don’t be afraid to take progress photos like these, because they end up being such a great reminder and validation of your hard work!
