I somehow managed to miss lunch today {which is practically unheard of for a foodie like me🍴}, but in the spirit of making up for lost nutrients i packed tonight’s bowl with SIMPLE protein, plant based fuel that has plenty of staying power to hold me over til morning. And BONUS: it tips the scales on the deliciousness factor 🙌🏻 & you can make it in under 10 min . . . What’s #InMyBowl 🌱👇🏻 . . Organic spinach & kale pre-cut salad mix. Zucchini peeled with a julienne peeler to make fast simple Zoodles. Dressed with a capful of @primalkitchenfoods honey mustard, rice vinegar & a few drops of @sweetleafstevia . Plus two of my @traderjoes vegan faves: the high protein veggie burger & the charred acorn squash {did you know squash is lower in carbs than many other plant carbs like beans & grain?}. As always...i lined the bowl with @bragglivefoodproducts nutritional yeast, & plopped a dollop of mustard & sweet relish under my veggie burg. . . It was a big & hearty bowl, with over 30 grams of protein. Why hello there super sexy moringa matcha! 🍵✨ I love a good matcha latte every once in awhile and recently tried adding moringa for a double dose of 💚! Moringa came highly recommended when I popped by @capbeautydaily last week and asked for recommendations to help improve my skin. Nicknamed “miracle leaf”, it’s packed full of bio-available vitamins, nutrients, minerals and amino acids and reputed to help eliminate free radicals among many other health benefits. I find it adds a little spiciness to the matcha and is great pick-me-up! Here’s a rough recipe: 1 cup almost boiled water 1/4 cup almond milk 1 tsp @sunpotion moringa leaf 1 tsp @ippodoteausa matcha 1 T almond hazelnut butter (or your other fave nut butter) Blend for 1 minute in your @vitamix or high speed blender (careful with those hot contents), pour and enjoy. 💫

I remember my first raw foods course. I was at a strangers house in Culver City, with 3 other people who were likely 20 years my senior, and we sat at TV trays in folding chairs just outside the ‘chef’s’ apartment kitchen. It was anything but glamorous, but man did it FIRE ME UP! . . I learned how to make {what is now the base to} my favorite tahini recipe, learned how to marinate a mushroom and dehydrate it to taste like steak, & was blown away at how delicious each course we ate was & how simple the recipes were. It was then that i was ‘challenged’ to go raw for 30 days & i accepted the challenge with excitement. More than that, it provoked my inner raw food chef, who slowly emerged over those next 30 days, continued on, & later started a blog to share some of my fantastic findings with the raw food lifestyle. . . While I’m not exclusively ‘raw’ now, it was one of the many things that led me to discovering food as medicine and got me to a point where i could launch my services & coaching online and truly pay forward what that ‘first raw food chef’ did for me by providing tools to change another’s life and outlook on nutrition. . . I’m 5 years into owning my coaching business and helping thousands of individuals not just with their health & wellness, but with tools to open a business like mine where they can help & coach others too. . . If i can offer just a little sage advice to any budding entrepreneur who’s about to get started with a biz like mine, let me gift you this: . . It won’t be glamorous, it will require hard work, you will lay years of foundation, and it WILL be worth it. Don’t stop a minute before the miracle. Invest in your dreams, invest in business development, attend seminars, & be willing to show up and put your work out before its ‘perfect’ {cuz you’ll always find something to improve on}. Chocolate Coconut smoothie w/ choc sauce, hempseeds, coconut flakes, dried flowers & fruits ’n’ berries on top ✨✨✨ My breakfast + lunch combined from yesterday ✌🏻😋 Smoothie recipe for 1: 1dl soaked cashews, 1dl @voimaruoka wholefood 360 coconut (flavor), protein, nut & seed mix, 1 tbsp raw cacao powder, ~4dl plantbased milk, 1dl oats, maple syrup to taste, pinch of sea salt flakes / optional. Blend and let the oats soak for a little while. For the chocolate sauce I just melted dark chocolate and mixed it with about 1tsp of coconut oil. Happy Saturday my dear Instagram friends! Braised onions, leeks and garlic, simmered with bay leaf, carrots, potatoes and roasted pumpkin. Serve with a dollop of crème fraîche and dill. And a glass of chilled vodka. it’s been hot as heck here in hawaii and i’ve loved every bit of this extended summer honeymoon but i can’t lie, fall is my favourite season and i’m excited to get back to sweater weather and fall inspired drinks and dishes. i’ve been drooling over all of the delicious pumpkin recipes on my feed for the past two weeks and i can’t wait to finally get back in my kitchen and whip them up. two that i’ve had my eye on making are @joyoushealth pumpkin spice cake and @rachelmmolenda grainless pumpkin mac + cheese - both of which i’ll be making asap! in the meantime, here is one of my own favourite pumpkin recipes that i’ll be enjoying tomorrow morning when i’m back in the cooler toronto temps 🍂 . ||pumpkin spice latte|| + 1 cup nut milk of choice, heated to almost a boil ( i use @earthsowncanada ) + 1 tsp @nutpods pumpkin spice creamer (optional, just add a touch more pumpkin spice if omitting) + 1/2 cup water, boiled + 2 heaping spoonfuls (really heaping!!) @farmersmarketfoods pumpkin purée + 1/4 tsp @365bywholefoods pumpkin pie spice + 1/2 tbsp @dandyblend + 1 date, pitted + 1 scoop @sprooslife marine collagen . blend all ingredients, except for collagen, in the blender for 1-2 minutes. add in collagen at the very end and blend in for a few more seconds until very frothy. pour into a giant mug, sip, and enjoy! . note: you can also use collagen peptides in this recipe in place of marine collagen. the former is sourced from cattle and the latter is sourced from fish. i prefer using marine collagen because it has been shown to have a greater impact on skin health due to its high bio-availability 👍🏻 . #sprooslife #marinecollagen #collagen #psl #pumpkinspicelatte #falldrinks #cozy

THE ART OF DIM SUM Dim sum (dian xin in Mandarin) has been around for many centuries and the literal definition is “to touch the heart”. They consist of small dishes of bite-size or individual portions either on small plates or bamboo baskets. The words are also synonymous with yum cha, or drinking of tea. The eating and drinking aspects really go hand in hand, as the tea helps digestion of each flavorful bite. This style of cuisine found its origins around the twelfth century when roadside teahouses for travelers along the Silk Road began offering snacks. During the next century, with the Mongol invasion, the ruling emperor and his people were forced to the south in the Guandong Province. They brought with them this tea and food custom, which has then become identified with the region ever since. Dim sum is a festive meal that typically happens between the early hours of the morning into the early afternoon and is meant to be shared amongst a group. A larger group also means the promise of a larger variety of dishes you can try.
There are many myths surrounding the origins of dim sum. The popular story is that it was created by chefs of the Royal Court many centuries ago, in order to ‘touch the heart’ of Chinese emperors. ‘Dim sum’ literally translates to ‘touch the heart’, whilst the term ‘yum cha’ translates to ‘drink tea’. I remember back in college I started drinking coffee because everyone else was doing it ☕️. I didn’t understand how people would stay up till 2am studying at the library when I was ready for bed by 10pm! I would drink coffee, then experience excruciating headaches, anxiety and even at times my hands would start shaking. I learned later that I’m a morning person. my body feels most energized in the mornings and I don’t have to force myself to become a night owl by drinking coffee! I stopped drinking coffee towards the end of my senior year in college and haven’t had a sip since then. here is why I don’t need coffee: 1) I typically try to get at least 7 hours of sleep every night 2) I started using maca powder about two years ago and like to add it to my smoothies, oatmeal or yogi bowls in the mornings because it gives me an extra energy boost! I know we hear this a lot, but it’s so so important to figure out what works for you and your body because everyBODY is different. now time to get some brunch with my parents, happy Saturday💕!

I’m diggin’ this chilly fall weather today 🍂🍃 and I’m also diggin’ this plate for lunch 😉 this has been on repeat the past few weekends: sautéed onions, baby bella mushrooms, roasted butternut squash, honey crisp apple, and kale all together then topped with baked salmon or you can also do chicken! It basically tastes like Fall on a plate 😍 and didn’t take long to make at all! I went to a sunrise Vinyasa (connecting your breathing with your body) yoga class this morning to relieve some tension in my muscles and felt so great afterwards - I see yoga as a way to appreciate my body and be thankful for how it supports me every day🧘🏻‍♀️🌸 anyways, happy saturday!

40. The 1st birthday where I feel a new chapter has truly begun. Where I actually felt different when I woke up — a good kind of different. I feel more grounded than I did yesterday, a little more at peace, more grateful and a little softer. ↠ When Harley asked what I wanted to do for my bday, my answer was simple: a week away with my 2 faves. As I get older I’m realizing more and more that simple things are what really matter and bring me joy: walks with Penny, snuggles with Harley, a good book, tea, yoga, calling my mom. ↠ I don’t believe “things don’t matter” (this bish loves her green beauty) but it’s really the experiences that make life count. Aging is a privilege not many get to have. And if I’ve learned anything from this past year is that you can’t rely on tomorrow, let alone another year. The older we grow, the quieter we tend to become, and the less pointless drama, distraction, and busyness we tend to engage in. Life humbles us gradually as we age. We begin to realize just how much nonsense we’ve wasted time on and we begin to refocus our attention on what truly matters. 2018 has given me a whole new appreciation for life that I don’t think I could’ve had under any other circumstance. I feel so blessed to be celebrating another birthday. ↠ I feel excited for new adventures, for more quiet moments, opening more books, deepening my relationships with my family & friends, longing for more solitude and striving to understand myself better. Loving the idea of a little more routine. I like it. ↠ To my love, fur baby, family and friends; you are the most important part of my life. The lessons I’ve learned from each one of you and the memories we’ve shared are invaluable. Thanks for loving me, for always being there with a shoulder (or a laugh) and for helping shape me into the woman I am today. I’ve never felt more loved than I did this week. Many happy tears. ↠ But today I'm equally all-in for other things — I'm sensing I’ll soon experience new shades and colors of life that I’ve never known before and I'm thrilled! I'm feeling the deepest love right now. The most open I’ve ever felt to receiving + giving it and I'm so excited about what’s to come 🖤

We are on out way to the Colorfest in Mentone, Alabama, which I am so excited about....THE LEAVES! Hopefully they'll be pretty even though it's been so warm here up until this week. Since we were getting an early start, I made this pumpkin oatmeal to set the mood for a fun fall day. ⠀ I want to know, what are you favorite things to do in the fall? I love hiking and, of course, eating all things pumpkin. ⠀ dEats: Cook 1/2 cup rolled oats with 1/2 cup milk and 1/2 cup water in the microwave for 1 1/2 minutes. Stir in 1/4 cup vanilla Greek yogurt, 1/4 cup canned pumpkin puree, and 1 tablespoon ground flaxseeds, and microwave 30 seconds longer. Stir in desired amount of ground cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice, and enjoy! ⠀

BE YOUR BFF | We looooove talking about self-love, but do we actually stop to think about what loving ourselves really looks like? So often, we see someone #selflove -ing a #nomakeup selfie, or we chalk it up to self love when we take time to make ourselves a bubble bath, or stop for ice cream on the way home from work. A skincare routine and treating ourselves are forms of self-love, but it doesn’t stop there. Loving ourselves means cutting ourselves slack when we aren’t perfect. It means forgiving ourselves for mistakes we have made. It means recognizing that we all- yes, even you- are a human being, who is perfectly imperfect. Self love means having empathy for yourself. Many of us have so much empathy for others and many of us are kind, compassionate, and caring friends. But do you offer that same friendship to yourself? Often, we are our own worst critic, when we should be our own best friend. Love yourself by giving yourself the grace to grow as a human and let your best be good enough. Vegan vs. Plant Based 🌿 I have recently added some meat and egg back into my diet in small servings. My body is really happy with this choice. I’ve honestly tried eating totally vegan a hand full of times. All of those times, I ended up feeling very off. I don’t knock anyone who chooses to live this way and i know people who do thrive this way. My first couple of attempts I would push through feeling sick and tell myself that is was just mental. After watching so many documentaries and following so many vegan bloggers, I thought I knew the truth! 🤣 Well, I knew their truth. I know that omitting all meat and animal products works for some, and it doesn’t work for others. I now eat meat about once a day and I make sure it is the most sustainable, eco-friendly and (as) kind as possible way that I can obtain it. Sometimes for me, that means getting it from my Dad who harvests it himself. Sometimes that means getting it from the farmers market or local butcher. Anyways... this is a plate full of plants. Elemental Superfood is better with Golden Milk lattes! This is the perfect way to start the morning or wind down in the afternoon 😌⠀ ⠀ #elementalsuperfood #theelementallife ⠀ ⠀ Golden Milk⠀⠀ 2 1/2 c almond milk or coconut milk⠀⠀ 1 1/2 c water⠀⠀ 2 tsp ground turmeric ⠀⠀ 2 tsp grated fresh ginger ⠀⠀ 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon ⠀⠀ 1/2 tsp ground black pepper⠀⠀ 1/4 tsp garam masala⠀⠀ Heaping tsp whole cloves⠀⠀ 1/2 tsp anise seeds⠀⠀ 1/2 vanilla bean pod⠀⠀ pinch of salt if desired ⠀⠀ raw honey to taste⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Peel and grate your ginger and add to a medium saucepan with milk, water and the rest of the spices. Bonus points if you made your own nut milk for this. Whisk together and bring to a boil. Lower heat to medium and whisk occasionally for about 10-15 minutes. Pour through a fine mesh strainer and add 1-2 tbsp of raw honey, depending on how sweet you like it. SELF CARE FRIDAY 🤷🏼‍♀️ Not sure it’s a “thing” and it doesn’t have a catchy ring to it but it’s my thing and I love it! Today I got out of my comfort zone and tried a new workout @twistedcycleacworth I’m such a creature of habit and I love my little routine but it def felt good to explore new things. And man my bod could feel the new challenge!! Icing on the cake...spending the morning/afternoon with someone who I look up to, inspired by daily and makes me laugh my ass off @savoringtheflavoring We burned all the calories working out and then hit up @natures.corner.market loading up and consuming all the things. If you’re local, it’s a must check out. Finding a health food store and cafe is truly life changing. I get majority of my speciality grocery items from there as well as all my yummy smoothies and post-workout grub, like pictured above! I got the bone broth chicken soup, ham bahn mi on a coconut wrap + an almond milk matcha latte!
