Haven't been posting anything for a long time, I guess. It's not been boring-- I've just gotten moderately used to this lifestyle. I'll try to get back into sharing. There's been a lot this year. .
Camped on this beach a few weeks ago in Port Barton, Palawan, Philippines. The first thing me and Rob did when we pulled up to the village was search for a perfect hammock spot for the night. A few hours later, we'd taken a private boat to a nearby beach then walked along the rocky coast to the next sand beach over. It was private, but we didn't have it to ourselves: the caretaker AMX his wife lived there on the beach. We bartered with the caretaker, Junior, using chocolate and cigarettes, and he welcomed us to stay for the night. .
We drank a Red Horse with Junior, 60ish, and his wife, Baby, that night in their beachfront bamboo hut. He showed us how to open the beers with his spoon. He confessed that despite his beachside living, he never learned how to swim or fish. He also cut himself off after the first beer, saying he would "sleep like a monkey."
Rob couldn't sleep that night. He was very nervous about a coconut falling and killing him in his sleep. Halfway through the night, he fell out of his hammock onto the ground. He decided to drag his mosquito net to the beach and sleep on the sand, but all the bugs found the hole he had accidentally made earlier. .
In the morning, we watched the sunrise then walked back to where Ronald, our boat captain, said he'd pick us up to take us back to Port Barton.
