Let’s talk SAUCES for a second, shall we?
When I first started this journey, I had NO idea how full of STUFF a lot of sauces and dressings were and in my mind, low-fat and sugar free equaled healthy. It wasn’t until I started doing research and learning more about ingredients that I realized that wasn’t USUALLY the case, and a lot of the STUFF added into our favs are SUPER unnecessary and quite frankly, scary!
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not telling you that to be healthy you have to eat plain, boring, food all the time, BUT I do encourage you to become MORE aware of you choices in the grocery store, pay attention to the ACTUAL ingredients, versus just how many calories are on the nutrition label, AND when possible, try out some recipes to make your own versions at home!!
We LOVE this homemade BBQ sauce and we make it multiple times a month! 9 ingredients (that we ALWAYS already have on hand), super simple to make, tastes AMAZING, and gives me the peace of mind of knowing EXACTLY what we are putting into our bodies!
Maple BBQ Sauce
1/2 cup tomato paste, no sugar added
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
2 Tbsp. Pure Maple Syrup
2 Tbsp. Apple Cider Vinegar
1/4 tsp. Garlic Powder
1/4 tsp. Onion Powder
1/4 Tsp. Sea Salt (Optional, I normally omit)
1 tsp. Ground Black pepper
Combine ingredients (and store in an airtight container in the fridge)
Do you have any homemade sauces that you love?!?!?!
