Dawn was approaching as boy met girl on a rooftop bar in Cambodia.
She winced at the taste of her shot and he pinched a chip off her mate.
She was from the UK and was volunteering, he was from South Africa, travelling and soon going on to Italy. Funnily enough, they were both going to be teaching in Thailand.
As the blinds rose, the rising sun alerted them to the time, they exchanged Facebook details (digital age and all that) before she hopped in a tuk tuk to get ready for school and he retired to bed.
It couldn’t have been more than 5 minutes but little did they know 5 minutes was enough. .
On this day a year ago, rather drunkenly Armand and I met for the first time. We discovered we were both going to be teaching in Chonburi and a later date we realised our schools were 20 mins apart. It would be a couple of months before we
managed to hang out again and even then I had no idea what was in store for us.
I booked Cambodia on a whim because I had three weeks free. It was my last night in Siem Reap and I convinced my camp mate to stay out even though she wanted to go home (thank you @alaw_llew
😆) It was such a chance meeting that some things are too strong and strange to be coincidences. I’m not sure I believe in fate but I sure as hell believe in serendipity.
Happy 1 year of knowing you A. 💜
