While we work on our first tea and book pairing for you and the final touches on our website, I thought I'd give a small taste of what to expect!
I've just tucked in to this book myself and it is a personal read not for the blog. Astra has not read it herself, but I thought this tea -- Swampwater from @davidstea
-- went so perfectly! Swampwater is one of Davids Tea's Halloween exclusive teas, so it is currently the off season for this tea (another reason we won't be doing a full review for this post). Swampwater is a fruity green rooibos blend. Before it is steeped it has a very sweet smell to it, no doubt due to all the different fruit essences combined in this tea.
The passion fruit and strawberry scents really come through, but once steeped it smells significantly more woody or "straw-like". But that's not the only thing that changes! Goldenrod in colour to start, this tea turns green! The tea seems so magical and is such a monster mash of flavours.
When you first sip the tea, while still hot, that sweet fruity flavour hits your tongue first. Somehow all the different, tropical fruit flavours mingle and balance one another out. As the tea cools that sweetness becomes more subtle and you get to enjoy more of that rooibos flavour.
How could I not pair it with What The Hell Did I Just Read (book #3
in the John Dies At The End series) by David Wong. The first time I had this tea I found myself asking a very similar question, and I loved every second of this tea.
The series has a lot of unique supernatural elements to it that pull from all sorts of monster lore in a quirky and refreshing way, making it stand out in an over saturated market.
I look forward to finishing this book, as well as my cup of tea!
