This car diffuser was a game changer for our 20 hour round-trip drive to Michigan this weekend! 🚙 10-12 drops on the white pad will last about 3-5 days depending on travel times! Here is my Disney quote of the day. Hello Liz and I had a great workout this morning and then I bombed my presentation today. Anna would say otherwise but I’m stressed about it. Now I’m just waiting for my professor to email with our grade. I just didn’t feel prepared and I completely blanked halfway through my part. Yikes and a half. But that was the last presentation I have to do for the whole semester. Now I just have research papers and regular papers to do. And case responses. Anyway, today was leg day and I super hurt my leg muscles (yes, I do have them) doing tons of squats. I ran 11 laps, and the last two I ran faster than normal because I was listening to life is a highway and apparently that’s a motivational song??? Idk but I’ll take it. Public Service Announcement: Don’t way foods you don’t like and don’t eat when stressed! . . . Stress: something we all experience but certainly not something we want to keep around for very long. . . . There are two types of stress, acute and chronic. Acute stress we only experience for a brief amount of time and can be beneficial by increasing motivation needed to accomplish a task. . . . However, stress when experienced over long periods of time can begin to affect our health, emotional state, and diet. . . . I have noticed that I could eat the same meal- one when I was stressed or upset and the other when I am relaxed and practicing mindful eating. The difference is so noticeable. When Will and I were on our weekend getaway, I let myself eat foods that I don’t usually eat when at home such as chips and salsa and believe it or not, I felt great! With the stress of coming home and being back in a normal routine to prep for the week I found myself becoming a tad anxious. For me, eating when stressed lead to extreme bloating that lasted all day and night. . . . It’s is so much better for digestion to eat in peace and not when emotions are high. Staying in tune with how you are feeling and engaging in activities to reduce stress are so helpful. . . . My go to’s are usually running, journaling, or breath work. One thing I find difficult about having a full time job is making sure I’m snacking properly. It’s so easy to reach for a convenient unhealthy alternative if I’m not armed with something nutritious. 💪🏻 . Yesterday I made these vegan and gluten free Quinoa Chia Energy Balls, and they are perfect for that end of the day before the gym snack! They are so easy to make and provide 3g of protein and 63 calories each. 😋 . HAPPY MONDAY ✨ I am in the process of switching my sleeping routine because tonight is my first night back to night shifts 👩🏻‍⚕️🏥 I am trying my hardest to stay positive about them and think about the reasons they’re not the worst This also means my workouts switch to afternoons, which honestly aren’t that bad! He investigates and the answers are very disturbing....there is no one regulating the chemicals that manufacturers use. We naturally think that there is someone regulating the products on store shelves...after all why would they be there if they aren’t safe? But there are many that are not. Carcinogenic chemicals and endocrine disrupters are in your products and they don’t have to label them. And when asked questions everyone passes the buck. So watch this and educate yourself. Mujadara is a super healthy and filling Lebanese lentil dish! ❤️ This recipe is rather simple, but the end result is bursting with flavor. This recipe calls for three main ingredients: a mix of green and red lentils, yellow onions, and rice 🍚(I use brown rice for a healthier alternative). This dish is seasoned with black pepper, allspice, and salt and then topped off with a drizzle of olive oil. Mujadara is best served with a side of salad. I would recommend trying fattoush, tabouli, or a simple cabbage salad. This is the perfect cozy meal for winter nights ❄️

What’s the deal with your tight muscles? What is a tight muscle? ‘Tight’ is a pretty imprecise term. Muscle tightness is a subjective feeling and the experience of it can vary from person to person. Your experience of muscle tightness may have to do with… * Soreness during or after exercise * Staying in one position for too long * Unhelpful stress or tension * Overuse injury * Autoimmune disease * Anxiety disorder * Hypermobility syndrome * or something else!
 The feeling of a muscle being tight may lead you to believe there’s a deficit in your range of motion or that your muscle is ‘too short.’ For most healthy and active folks, that’s not the case. Sometimes tightness can also be a feeling of weakness. Just because a muscle feels ‘tight’ doesn’t mean it is strong. When a muscle feels tight, the first response may be to stretch. That might help and it might not. If stretching feels helpful for your tight muscles and you see the improvements you seek, keep on keepin on! However, if you have a sensation of tightness and stretching doesn’t seem to help, might I recommend a two-step approach? —— When I have a muscle that feels tight, my first step is to get some pressure on the muscle which causes it to deform. I’m talking about a therapy ball or a dowel or a yoga block. While holding that pressure, I might try moving the associated joints all while taking slow deep breaths that help calm the nervous system and bring deeper awareness to the specific area of the body. After doing this kind of a ‘release,’ I will try to use the muscle(s) that feel tight. Often times that’s through a mobility exercise that actively takes the joint through its range of motion. I say actively to indicate that I am using my own muscular control to move my body as opposed to using a prop (like a yoga strap) to passively move into a position and hold it. So for example, I’m spending a lot of time sitting while writing this blog post. I know from experience (because I’m over 30 now 😜) that when I move to stand up my hips are going to feel stiff. So I might place two therapy balls or a foam roller at my hip creases and lie down on my stomach. Head to my blog to read the second step!
