Literature is one way to educate ourselves about who we are and where we come from. Shockingly most Africans are probably not aware of their own African writers and how they can benefit from their African writings.
STANLEY NYAMFUKUDZA- Is one of Zimbabwe ‘s longest established writers. He has written over three books. His novel The Non Believers’ Journey is a Novel that addresses the liberation war with regards to Colonialism. It addresses major topics such as education, culture, racism, religion, land and its distribution and many other issues. I have also read this book.
CHIMAMANDA NGOZI ADICHIE- She is one of my role models as well as my favourite author apart from my dad😉. Chimamanda is Nigerian who also grew up in America at some part of her life. This lady is a feminist and an author and has written over 5 novels. I have read some of her works and I’m in the middle of reading AMERICANAH.
BINYAVANGA WAINANA- He is a very notable author from Kenya. He is also regarded as one of the most influential people. He has over seven works that are read world wide.
Wainaina has a collection of over 13,000 recipes from around Africa and is an expert on traditional and modern African cuisine.
CHINUA ACHEBE - The late respectable man was a Nigerian novelist, poet, professor, and critic. His first novel Things Fall Apart, often considered his best, is the most widely read book in modern African literature. I also read the book Things Fall Apart during my GCSEs.
JAINABA FYE- I love how this book was written it was a lady who could not find a story for her daughter and decided to invent a story about an African princess. She could not see her ethnicity represented in literature. I am very proud of her and I’m definitely gonna get her series for my future daughter.
