Bears. I both love and fear bears, especially after having an experience seeing multiple black bears in the wild in Colorado this year. There’s many horror stories about bears attacking humans (although this is a rare thing), & I am especially fearful of grizzly bears, who are known to be much more aggressive & dangerous towards people. I think about how it is sad that civilization has taken over & destroyed so much of their territory, but I am glad they are still around and that humans are making an effort to protect + replenish their fading numbers (historically there were estimated 50,000 grizzlies, to to now only around 1,800 of them). An ideal society lives as one with nature, not consuming and destroying, but working with, protecting, and preserving. We are not separate from nature & wilderness, there are always consequences when we fail to realize this. We are a long way from a society that lives to this ideal, but I have hope we will follow towards that path.
