I’ve been asked quite a bit lately for advice/tips on picture taking. I am not an expert by any means, I have no photography knowledge whatsoever. All I know is what I’ve learned from trial and error. But I’m happy to share whatever I know! .
First, the most common question I get asked is what camera I use....which is my iPhone 8 Plus. I like the iPhone for pictures the best, because I’ve found that if I take pictures with a Samsung/android or whatever the pictures turn out suuuuper gold, and doesn’t show the hair accurately. I have no idea why. But I’ve tried it repeatedly and the result is always the same. I also use portrait mode most of time because it blurs the background and makes my gal and her hair stand out.
Second, lighting is EVERYTHING, and can change from second to second, and angle to angle. So take LOTS of them!! My best advice is to take your pictures in natural, indirect lighting. I did a LOT of investigating on this, and I’ve found that for whatever reason, lighting is best if you can either stand in front of a big window, or go outside and find an *overhang* of some sort. The bigger the better. Like I said, I’m no photographer so I can’t tell you why, but the difference is nuts.
Lastly, what your guest is wearing can effect the outcome of your picture tremendously. I try to have my blondes wear black because the light reflects off the hair better if they do, and my brunettes either white or some sort of lighter color to bring out those gorgeous warm tones in their hair. (Thank you @kristen.lumiere
for teaching me that little nugget!)
This picture is actually an example of that! Same hair, seconds apart, but see how much difference the black makes? It shows the hair truer to the tone it is in person.
I actually just bought some cute pieces from TJMaxx so my guest can just throw it on over their shirt if what they have on won’t work. (Wrong color, intense pattern etc.) Plus it totally makes a guest feel like a star when they get to wear a prop and then see how gorg their hair looks in the pics afterwards! 🤩 (thank you @prettylittleombre
for that advice!! 😘) .
Alright, that’s all I’ve got! Hope it helps ✌🏻😘
