Body liberation is for everyone. We all deserve it. There’s no reason to live life feeling like you have no soul. Feeling miserable, obsessed with food (or lack there of), and never TRULY feeling satisfied with yourself.
In the left pic, I was a walking zombie. I was self medicating with alcohol quite a bit, starving myself and then binging when I lost my “willpower.” I had constant gut issues. I wasn’t sleeping. I had anxiety. I hated myself and my body.
In the right pic, I’m truly liberated in my body. I’ve learned self acceptance. I’ve learned to TRUST my body and its signals. I’ve let go of black and white thinking. I don’t use my body as currency and I don’t buy into diet culture’s bullshit. I’ve made peace with food. I’ve discovered pleasure and satisfaction in eating and moving my body. I don’t force workouts when my body is dying for rest and I don’t ignore pain signals. I practice self-care mentally and physically.
I also realize that I’m very privileged to have come out the other end and I’m so lucky to have a supportive family and friends by my side. I’m lucky to have the financial means to take care of myself and acquire the tools to be able to recover.
Body liberation is something we should ALL be fighting for. Everyone deserves to feel happy, free, and accepted as is. In all reality, it has nothing to do with abs. It’s a bigger issue. It’s a race issue. A gender issue. A sexuality issue. It’s everything to do with our culture and society and not really anything to do with food. Can you imagine a world where you’re not stressed about food? A world where you’re not worried about your appearance all the time? A world where you’re not TERRIFIED of wrinkles and cellulite....of aging in general? A world where people judged you based on the content of your character instead of the shape of your body? It’s hard to imagine, but I can and we should all be fighting for it. #BodyLiberation
Sweat. Hustle. Striving. Depending on your view of things, these words can either elicit good feelings or you could kinda push up against them.
I’m totally in the middle. Hustle, hard work, and drive are really good qualities to have. But you can’t LIVE there. That’s how burnout happens. If you’re really good at hustle, be really good at soaking in a bath with a book too. If you’re really good at sweating and pushing yourself, be really good at meditation, too.
I went from one end of the spectrum with my training (no rest, all push) to the opposite (no lifting, focusing mostly on slow moving and mobility) and now I’m finding myself settling like a pendulum somewhere in the middle: combining hard work and strength training WITH resting, slow movement, and relaxing. ⠀
I might not be as strong as I was when my sole goal was lifting heavier, and my body might not be as “proportioned” as it was when I was competing in bikini, but I have a fit body that I’m working toward becoming friends with (instead of fighting against), and I have a whooooole lot more mental peace.
It may not be impressive, but it sure is sustainable. Sustainability, happiness, and CONFIDENCE are really the keys to a good, healthy fitness practice:
▪️Do you enjoy what you’re doing?
▪️Do you feel like what you’re doing is something you could be doing for the rest of your life?
▪️Is what you’re doing helping you to become more confident and comfortable in your body?
Those are really vital questions that are the top things I address when creating programs for clients. If you answered no to any of those...why? What’s holding you back from a “yes”? What could you do to change that answer?

Remember how far you’ve come.
Remember what once was weak - you made strong.
We don’t give ourselves enough credit. We’ve been through a lot. Our hearts have experienced much.
- and yet -
We continue on.
We rise above.
As the quote says.. I survived because the fire inside of me burned brighter than the fire around me.
Give yourself some more credit.
Give yourself some more love.
You are wildly talented.
Your life has meaning.
You shine bright to all around you.
You are exactly where you need to be right now.

Know that it’s okay.
It’s all going to be okay.
If you’re not okay right now,
It’s okay! You will be soon.
So breathe, pause, reflect and look back,
On how far you’ve come and how much you’ve endured, and let that inspire and enable you to rise above, and thrive on✨💗
One of the many reasons i love @freskincare
(aside from the amazing products) is that they care about our environment.
Normally, for every skincare set sold, FRÉ plants an Argan tree of life in Morocco to fight deforestation. But for this week only, they will be planting THREE trees for every Detox Trio sold! 🌲
On top of that, they are offering my followers 30% off this trio when you use my code EDM at checkout!! 🙌🏼
Let’s help our skin and planet together 🤗 #detoxtheplanet #detoxyourskin #freskincare
When you do good, you feel good.
Which is why I’ve always had a Charity aspect to what I’m all about.
I quickly realized years ago,
That the energy shifted when our workout became so much more than a single sweat sesh..
When we could come together in community and do good for our community, the energy shifted, and everything changed. More and more people started showing up. More and more funds were being raised for local outreach programs. And with time this little workout group quickly grew into a beautiful local and online community for individuals wanting to go through life with the absolute highest capacity for their health, happiness, strength, and overall vision of their lifestyle.
has raised over $8000 dollars for the local community through fitness/wellness styled events. That tradition continues this week with not one, but TWO, charity events.. let me tell you more..
First off, this Thursday for Bootcamp, 100% of the proceeds are going towards our current charity cause of the @weekendfuelbag.
Drop in for $10 for this ladies only workout at McLeod Athletic Park((details are in my bio))
Then this Sunday evening, there is also another big Charity event happening! I’m teaming up with the gals at @oxygenyogawalnutgrove
, as well as with @lululemonyvr
(specifically Lululemon Langley - opening up in Willowbrook Mall in early October!). We’ll be bringing the community a co-ed, all levels, Sunset Yoga Flow For A Cause, where again 100% of proceeds will go towards the @weekendfuelbag.
If you don’t know what the @weekendfuelbag
is all about, check them out right now! This student led initiative is massively inspiring for what they are doing to raise the next generation to their fullest capacity.
Head to the Strong Souls FB page to see the event details and to enter the GIVEAWAYS from myself at Strong Souls, 1 Month of Unlimited training with Oxygen Langley, or a Yoga Mat from Lululemon Langley!
See you on Sunday!! (( If weather isn’t loving us - we’ll be inside at @oxygenyogawilloughby
Together we can change the fitness industry. We are thrilled to be able to support the important work of trainers and gyms committed to body positivity through our sponsorship program. We are super excited to announce our newest sponsored trainers, Betsy Archer & Melanie Williams!
Betsy is a certified personal trainer, wellness coach, and clinical social worker based in Asheville, NC. She runs a personal training studio, PlayFit AVL, with a focus on making fitness accessible to all bodies. She believes that fitness should be FUN and playful, not a punishment. Betsy's ultimate goal is to help clients feel better in their bodies so they can do the things that make them happy. @playfitavl
Melanie at Found Space Yoga, is a fat, queer, non-binary yoga teacher and self-love advocate in Washington, D.C. She is called to create profoundly accessible spaces for wellness, self-inquiry, and the inward journey by integrating spiritual teachings and adaptive movement practices with the spirit of social justice. Melanie believes that the goal of yoga, as of life, is collective liberation and she challenges contemporary yogis to dismantle the systems and beliefs that hold us all back. She also offers workshops that explore queer identity and body image, advises leading industry groups, and champions diversity and representation in the broader yoga community as a member of the Yoga & Body Image Coalition leadership team. @foundspaceyoga

Over the last 6 months I’ve really enjoyed the theme I’ve curated on my Instagram profile (a “theme” is a purposeful and cohesive layout). I’ve definitely seen more growth on this platform since I made the switch from posting whatever I felt like to following a plan with the layout. But I think a change is due.
Currently 2/3 of the pictures in my feed are of me, and 1/3 are of other things and quotes. From a business perspective, posting pictures of the face of a brand tends to get more engagement than posting other things. As my biz coach has said, people want to see you so they can feel a connection with you.
However, I know that I have a lot of privilege as a half-white (and mostly white passing except on paper), heterosexual, naturally thin person. And there are a lot of people following me who are in recovery from EDs or whose bodies are marginalized for various reasons/look vastly different from mine.
Given my privilege and small size, photos of me have the potential to be triggering. Which is not to say I am responsible for the feelings of everyone on the internet. I’m not, and no matter what I post some people will feel triggered. What IS my responsibility as a professional is to minimize that where I can (something I already try to do by mixing in both professional and amateur shots, not only posting full-body shots, and trying as much as possible not to come across as #fitspo
In thinking about what’s right for (1) my business, (2) the people I want to help and inspire, and (3) me, I’ll be adjusting my theme to a 55% to 45% mix of pictures of other things and pictures of me. Some will say that’s still too much, and that’s fine. But I feel like this shift moves things in the right direction while ensuring that my little corner of the internet still feels like me. After all, the magic is in my captions, and I don’t want my choice of photo to take away from my message.
Thoughts? Questions? Hit me up. I’d love to hear your take.
🔶New here? Hey girl, heyyyy😘😘😘
What you need to know: I’m Deanna Schober and I create online fitness, self-care, mindset, and nutrition content and programs for new and expecting moms to gently guide them through one of the most overwhelming times of life in a body-positive, loving way.
My favorite part of my career is coaching privately with women who have just become moms (some are expecting babies!) and teach them how to:
✅develop a healthy relationship with food and their bodies,
✅reach postpartum fat loss goals (if desired) using that healthy mindset,
✅find the right amount of food and exercise for nursing without milk supply tanking, and
✅learn to love and respect their bodies.
I’m also a mom of 4, ages 4, 11, 15, and 20. Yep you read that right. My oldest is in college and my youngest is in preschool.
Something I’ve never shared publicly before - I’m also a special needs mom. My youngest is on the #Autism
spectrum and struggles with speech and language. I’ll be talking about this a little more in upcoming posts but it’s an aspect of my life where I tread carefully out of respect for my son.
My husband and I co-own a media company together and he also creates online, body-positive fitness content. You can see his work —> @coachcalorie
NOW FOR SOME FUN let’s play two truths and a lie: Guess which one is a lie!
1-I was once in a tv commercial for a buffet restaurant with my entire family
2-I was captain of my cheerleading squad in both middle and high school
3-I was once paralyzed from the neck down but made a miraculous recovery
Which one do you think is a lie?
It’s okay to want to change but it’s more important to try and accept and be happy with how you are now. ✨If we’re constantly thinking about how things will be better or different in 6 months or next year then we miss out on life in the present. My mom always says don’t wish your life away so instead of waiting for the next thing let’s enjoy today for what it is ✨
Diets, fitness plans, cleanses, flat tummy teas, weight loss supplements, resets, workout regimens, meal plans... they all have one thing in common. They prey on our insecurities:
“Guaranteed to target that stubborn belly fat !!”
“Feeling stuck because you just can’t shed those final pounds??”
Some even throw in wellness buzz-words to make them seem less diet-y & more wellness-y:
“Say bye-bye to bloat & fatigue!”
But at the heart of it, these programs all say the same thing:
“There’s something wrong with you. There’s something wrong with your body. You KNOW there is! So buy this product so that you can fix yourself. We promise you’ll be happier once you do.”
But here’s the crazy thing about it all:
CHANGING YOUR BOD IS NOT A REMEDY FOR YOUR STRUGGLE WITH BODY IMAGE.
So before you buy what they’re selling, take a step back and ask yourself:
“Am I doing this in order to fix my body image? Or do I have another aim?”
Changing the way we eat and/or move can absolutely make us feel better! There’s so much power in these two tools when used responsibly. But it’s only when coupled with a true BODY PEACE PRACTICE that our body image, overall confidence, and overall access to body JOY begin to shift. And, in my opinion, this is the most powerful wellness component of them all🌷

I hear this all the time from people concerned about someone in a smaller body. I hear it less with someone in a larger body because we support disordered eating in larger bodies so they can fit the standard society deems is “healthy”
“This is so real! "Just eat and be healthy." "Just eat." "You could've done to lose a few pounds, but now you can stop. Just stay where you are." Eating Disorders claim a life every 62 minutes. It's not a matter of just eating when every fibre of your being is telling you not to. Every waking moment is spent thinking about how, when, and what to eat, or remorse for eating too much or the "wrong" thing, and once you realize you need to make a change you simultaneously feel shame for eating too much for your eating disorder and yet too little for recovery. Eating Disorders are NOT A CHOICE. In fact, once I entered recovery I began to educate myself on the ways we are subconsciously encouraged and applauded for disordered eating and exercise behaviors. You might instinctively reject this statement, but take a moment to consider the demonization of weight gain. Think about how people showered you with praise and adulation when you lost weight, no matter how you got there. ...
I firmly believe that medical professionals need at least a baseline course that teaches them signs to look for in a patient developing an eating disorder. The last comment I listed above was said by my pediatrician, and I will never forget it. My parents were adamant that something was wrong, but he just wouldn't see it. And if I had this problem, just imagine how much damage could be caused before a heavier person with disordered eating was listened to.”

🌈Honor your hunger 🌈 is one of the principles of Intuitive Eating and seems to be one that people with disordered eating backgrounds struggle with the most.
If you’re used to hunger being a “bad” thing that you’re trying to shoe away like an annoying fly, you’re also used to not trusting your body and it’s natural mechanisms. Just like a crying baby, when you ignore it, it’ll cry louder and more intensely. So... what if you don’t know what hunger signals are? They vary based on sleep, stress levels, moods, and hormones... so it’s a good practice to observe and take note of certain signals.
I’ll use myself as an example (you might be different though, so try to track and observe!).
Normally, I like bigger meals, less often. I eat about 3-4 satisfying meals per day where I’m not really thinking about food in between. I *try* to make sure my meals contain some form of protein, carbs, veggies and some fat because I’ve learned this is what makes me feel satiated. If I have a busy day, this isn’t always the case and that’s okay! I just know I’ll need to snack a bit more to keep hunger at bay.
How do I know I’m hungry? My stomach grumbles or I have a hollow feeling in there. Sometimes I’m busy with clients and I can’t sit down to eat a meal, this is where shakes and snacks come in handy! I really try hard not to ignore hunger because I end up feeling light-headed, cranky or shaky if I do. This is not how I want to feel when I’m interacting with clients all day... I want to be my best self for work 🤗
I’ve also noticed that if I’m STRESSED these hunger signals aren’t so obvious. I’ll tend to get a headache or feel shaky without the tummy rumbling. My appetite is not as obvious and I just assume I’m “not hungry” ... I’ve learned the hard way that I still need to eat SOMETHING even if I don’t feel like it. High-stress days are also when snacks come into play. I’ll have energy dense things available that always sound good like peanut butter, hard boiled eggs, a bar of some sort, cheese, or a sandwich or wrap
HORMONES... yep, during the luteal phase my appetite skyrockets. It’s something I’ve learned through tracking and I don’t judge it anymore. I 👏🏻 just👏🏻eat !
Having a strong core is cool. It protects your back from injury, enables you to lift heavier, move better, & have greater balance. But most “ab exercises” kinda suck. Sit ups are boring and basically useless, and while planks have their place, they’re also boring as hell.
Any kind of hanging core exercise also increases your grip strength, which you’ll need if you ever want to be able to do a pullup, or crush someone’s skull with your bare hands.🤷♀️
Here are a couple of my favorites, progressing from easiest to hardest. And pro tip: if you have the ability to do these with some kind of wall or rack behind you, you’ll eliminate swinging, which will enable you to focus 100% on the abdominal muscles working.
▪️hanging leg lift
▪️toes to bar
▪️around the world
If you try them, tag me and let me know which was the hardest!

"Vacation calories don't count"
Well they really do, but in this case I am not counting these. I dont know the next time I'll be in Rome and I had to have some of this deliciousness.
I want to share something with you. I have struggled with food and how I view my body for years. My relationship with food was an all or nothing kind of relationship. Either I was on a diet or completely off the rails and even when I was on a diet I would get that sudden urge to eat and I'd give in.
I've built healthy habits around food and have found what works, but what I realized over the last year is that I still would feel guilty if I ate a cookie or pizza. I literally had the thoughts... if I eat this I'll gain weight. I had some bad food rules and I've worked on breaking them.
So this photo represents a huge victory for me. I enjoyed a piece of this pizza with my parents and when I say I enjoyed it, I did. I didnt just shove it down my throat like I would have in the past. I enjoyed all the deliciousness of the flavors and having it with my parents...in Italy.
I am sharing this with you because if you are struggling with food, trying every diet and not losing weight, I know exactly how you feel and I want you to know that you too can enjoy food. There is a balance. I'm also not going to sugar coat it...you can absolutely heal your relationship with food, lose weight and love your body, but not without some work. But the work is so worth it!!
I am curious if calories didn't count, what would you eat? Share in the comments below👇🍕 _
