Stiamo a quasi un anno di distanza dalla prima foto. Nella prima vedo una schiena definita ma vedo, allo stesso tempo, il risultato di un'alimentazione disordinata, vedo l'ossessione e vedo i pianti di fronte al petto di pollo bollito e scondito. Vedo tutti i "non posso uscire perché non posso sgarrare", vedo "se non dimagrisco nemmeno così inizio a rimettere". Vedo una persona distrutta e smaciullata dalle ore di allenamento al giorno, vedo un corpo martoriato.
A destra vedo una persona felice. Una persona alla quale piace lo sport che fa e il cui obiettivo primario è diventare forte e ritornare a competere dopo sei anni. Vedo una persona che non consuma più litri di albume e proteine polvere, creatina, arginina e altre schifezze. Vedo una persona che non compra più gallette di riso né marmellata con la stevia. Vedo una persona che non si lamenta dei dolori dovuti all'abuso di lassativi e consumo di cocacola 0. Vedo una persona felice, che mangia quello che vuole quando vuole.
Penso che ci siano anche notevoli miglioramenti.

Six Months ago my life changed forever. My body had been failing me for a long time, and thanks to a lifesaving operation I was given another chance at life. My entire large intestine was removed and the end of my small intestine was pulled through my belly to create an #ileostomy
. I wear a #ostomy
bag on my belly at all times to collect waste (ostomates like to call it “output” because I guess it sounds less gross... but it’s just 💩). Almost immediately after surgery I could eat again without pain. I gained weight FAST! 6 weeks after surgery I began lifting weights (keep in mind, that I’m a personal trainer and had weight training experience long BEFORE I got sick with Crohns... I knew how to listen to my body and progress correctly). This is me today, in a tiny burgundy bikini that I will probably never wear in public (but for some reason Instagram is fine😌), but it shows that chronic illnesses, surgeries, and ostomies don’t have to hold you back. Keep that positive mindset, treat your body right, and listen to the trusted professionals overlooking your care (or find ones your do trust!). For those of you still reading who do NOT live with #IBD
, thank you for being willing to learn a bit about it, and treasure your health everyday. There are a lot of people still suffering as I used to, and I hope for relief and many better days ahead.

month is one of my favorite times of the year in NYC because it feels like the mood in the city is so happy and celebratory and filled with rainbows and how can that not make you feel happy?? We should also use this month to educate ourselves, speak up and acknowledge our biases and privilege. I’m trying to do my best to use my privilege as a straight, white cisgender woman to listen to, support and stand up for our LGBTQ brothers and sisters. 🌈❤️🌈

Step 4: accept defeat.

Being okay with your body doesn’t mean you can’t still want to change. You can be at your heaviest, lumpiest, fluffiest, boniest or thinnest point, accept your body in a loving, gentle, and compassionate way, and still be on the path to better health.
Because, believe it or not, when you DO accept where you are, that’s when you CAN begin to change. And that’s okay. .

How do you feel when you step outside your comfort zone?
That was me last night. I had earned an exclusive invitation to a success party and to be honest, I didn't feel like I belonged. 😬
I looked and saw a lot of top coaches around me.
They looked perfect & polished. 💃
They wore designer clothes.🧚♀️
Their nails & hair were perfect. 💅
They had so much confidence.🤳
It would have been easy for me to feel inferior & doubt myself, compare myself to them, and feel like there was something wrong with me.
And yes, those thoughts DID cross my mind.
I didn't use a single product or tool on my hair.
My nails weren't even painted.
My outfit was 100% from good will. .
Instead of spending all my $$ on drinks, I fan girl'd & waited in line for a half hour to get a pic with Tony Robbins (yep, the p90x guy😉). And then, I grabbed all the cupcakes I could. .
You know what though? I didn't let those comparisons & doubts linger in my mind & ruin my night. In the past, I would have. 100%.
My mindset has changed. I had to remind myself that I DID belong to be there. I reached the same goals as those other coaches. I am running a successful business, too. I'm far from perfect, definitely don't have the biggest following, and have a lot to learn, but I'm authentic, sharing the real me, and helping people get healthier. And that's enough for me!
This mindset change is everything. And for that, I am so, so grateful. 🙏🙏

Nearly every time I “dare” to exercise in a sports bra in public I get disapproving looks from passers by. So many people believe smaller bodies are the only ones allowed to dress comfortably or be proudly displayed. It’s a belief that’s dripping in misogyny and fat phobia, and quite frankly one I’m very very tired of. Decided to give them a reason to look harder this time. 😉 No matter your size you deserve to be happy in and about your body. You aren’t beholden to any societally restrictive dress-codes, especially those based in shame, and anyone who feels entitled to oppress you is dead wrong. Tell them girl bye and keep it moving 💁🏾♀️ Oh, and in case anyone hasn’t said so yet, you look cute af today.

When I first started working out, I was focused on getting smaller.
Then, over the years, my focus shifted to getting stronger. I wanted to be as powerful as possible.
These days, I’m finding myself just wanting to enjoy the movement.
Injury that I dealt with this past year definitely forced me to reevaluate my goals and be more in-tune with what my body needs. Sure, I still like lifting heavy things and want to get stronger, but it’s now secondary to how I feel. Sadly, for awhile I was more fixated on the numbers I was lifting than how I was feeling.

‘s “Find What Feels Good” approach to yoga, and I find myself taking more of that approach towards any form of movement these days. I’m trying to learn more forms of movement and more training approaches... with a playful and experimental attitude. And it’s been really fun.
I’m sure in a few years, I’ll discover my perspective and attitude shifting again in a new way. However, I hope that I hold onto two things I’ve learned from this period in my life: (1) gratitude for movement (2) always place wellbeing first.
Some words that come to mind after that live workout with all our trainers, team and 15,000 coaches are- powerful, community, love, positivity, energy, teamwork, empowered, purpose...heart is on fire 🔥

I wanted to share a NSV today, because the number on the scale is not the only thing that matters when you are trying to get healthy, fit and build confidence 💃🏻
I bought some new workout clothes a couple of weekends back. I mean who doesn’t love new clothes?😉 I got so used to buying clothes in a large and x-large, but I was able to fit into a small, in both the tops and tights. I know different brands vary, but generally they will be similar. Both tops were different brands
Please take note! 👉🏻I’m not saying skinny=happy! My goal is to get strong and fit and that looks different on everybody.
But I won’t lie, being able to fit into a smaller size was a real confidence booster
This is just a reminder to not just rely on the scale, but rather on you how you feel in your own skin!
And remember if you are strength training, muscle weighs more than fat, so you can lose body fat and not see much of a change on the scale and that is ok, it doesn’t mean that you are not making progress. Just keep at it and you will see results 💪🏻

Happy Friday!!! Leg day gave me a run for my money but felt phenomenal afterwards. I’m really proud of the progress I’ve made so far and insta has made it so much easier to see those small changes that otherwise, would be difficult to catch.

It’s official! The LGBTQIA2S+ Fitness Accessibility Training for Professionals educational workshop that we have been working on with @queerflex
and the @yegpridecentre
has been approved for 8 CSEP Professional Development Credits and 2 CanFit PFT/FIS/HWL CECs and we will be hosting our first in-person session on Sunday, September 16th from 10 am-3pm!
***NOTE*** you do not need to be certified through CSEP or CanFit To come to this workshop. It is open to anyone that works with or has interest in working with members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community in fitness or recreation! Phys ed teachers, coaches, and Recreation therapists would also benefit from taking this workshop!
Making your fitness space and practices queer and trans friendly is more that putting a rainbow sticker on the door, and in this course we will break it down, in detail, exactly what that means for you as a fitness professional or gym owner.
Registration opens on Monday, July 16th and is $180. There will be some subsidies and scholarships available, with priority to two-spirit, trans, and non-binary people of colour.
There will also be an option of having your name added to a directory of trainers who have successfuly taken this course. This will help folks from the LGBTQIA2S+ community to find safer spaces to access fitness training services.
