Airplane Week: 💺🛫✈💺🛫✈💺🛫✈💺🛫✈ I know, more cotton balls! But they make perfect clouds! Just a great immersive play area for the airplanes!
Airplane Week: 💺🛫✈💺🛫✈💺🛫✈💺🛫✈ Arts and crafts time! 2 hands prints and some markers and scissors. Easy and fun.
Overhead projectors are my favorite. And only for the unconventional reasons. 🤩
Today we read “The Little Yellow Leaf” by Carin Berger and created this leaf globe that I found on @sarahfrugalfunforboys.
🍁 This book is so sweet with beautiful illustrations. The little yellow leaf didn’t want to fall off his branch. He was all alone and the snow started to fall “and then...and then, high up on an icy branch, a scarlet flash. One more leaf holding tight.” Together they were both ready to soar off the branch. 🍁 What a simple story of how things are easier with someone with you. 🍁 This week at @get.creative.with
the prompt is to make something with everyday items. 🍁 Therefore, this “leaf globe” seemed fitting with not only the story, but using paper plates to create this craft. 🍁 We love that the leaves really fall and the yellow and red are hanging on their branches. 🍁 My daughter enjoyed using our leaf punch to cut the leaves out.
BOOKISH HIDDEN BUGS
This afternoon we went on a walk to collect some Autumn 'treasure' and when we got back I added it all in to a tray on top of her bugs. Instant hide and find bugs.
She was so gentle moving the natural resources carefully to see if any bugs were hiding. Little found the treasure fascinating.
Adding 'The Big Book of Bugs' by Yuval Zommer meant I could read little sections to her about each bug she found and such a beautiful book never fails to improve an activity!

October makes me want to bust out the black light and anything that could possibly glow under it! 🌚 I looked to a book for inspiration for my BIOLUMINESCENCE Workshop coming up! 😎😎😎This cool book, Glow, has awesome pictures and helped inspire this Anglerfish🐟, these Foxfire shrooms 🍄 and this Rainbow Jelly 🌈. Y’all- I’m telling you! If you’ve wondered about Wonder and Create Art Studio - OCTOBER IS THE MONTH to register for a workshop, and this Bioluminescence Workshop is sure to please (HalloWONDEReen, too! ☺️) !!!
What is it like to paint in the dark under a black light...with glowing body paint on your face and arms guiding your movements?
What is it like to break 💫800💫glowsticks and circle them all together along with other glowing creatures made from painted recyclables with glowing paint for one huge collaborative 3D sculpture?
No need to wonder any further🤔 just register for the Bioluminescent Workshop and be stunned and amazed!
These creatures were fun to make from recyclables and soon I promise I’ll post on my blog the steps we took! 🤞🏼#wonderandcreateartstudio #cummingga #bioluminescence #workshopsforkids
Make shift light table out of twinkle lights and storage bin. Kinda felt more magical than the real thing. ✨
I love when a book surprises us! "Duck Gets a Job" by @sonnyrossillustration @candlewickpress #partner
was new to us and a definite hit! .
Join Duck as he attempts to get a job in the big city just like his friends. Follow him through resume writing, interviews and finally landing his first job. Duck just forgot one major step...did he actually want the job he was applying for? Follow your heart not the herd. Definitely add this book to your list for career week!
We paired this book with our career cards (actually an Old Maid card game!) and talked about what the girls would like to do when they grow up. Miss 7 wants to NOT get married, adopt babies and open a daycare. Miss 5 wants to get married, have babies and take care of animals that need help. Miss 7 asked if I would work for her since I know how to plan fun things for kids....heart melting!! .

This is my favourite #juliadonaldson
book, so it was a great one to do #bookishplay
with for this week’s theme by @letsplaymama
! Spud’s favourite was the pig who made lots of footprints in the playdough too. Although I reckon we’ll definitely have to do something baby related to help him prepare for impending brotherhood in a couple of months time 😳#letsplayatoz_b
I have some lovely #bookishplay
lined up for my preschoolers in the upcoming days. 👫
We will be combining simple counting with geography (and of course some arts and crafts!) 🌏🔢
World geography is one of my favourite subjects and I don't know who's more excited, me or the kids! (hint: Me! 🙊)
Stay tuned 😁 #mygrannywenttomarket
and the threeness of 3. One of my all time favourite books, perfect for so many different learning focuses and a book I have used every year of my career, more than once, one way or another. I always remember using it for an experiment in holistic teaching on my first placement when I was doing my teacher training at University of Cambridge- 10 years ago this month - arghhh, how time flies! Anyway, today we are looking at 1,2,3, and this was the perfect book to use. We shared the story, reiterating the number sequence throughout, inviting the children to help me count the babies as we read. When we'd finished they played with the set up and were challenged to search for 3 of everything- owls, apples, leaves and fir cones. #eyfs #earlyyears #bookishplay #storiesofmaths #weloveautumnplay #childcare #preschoolfun #homeschoolfun #earlychildhoodeducation #education #childhoodunplugged #teacherledchildcare
I don’t enjoy watching the colours get smudged into that delightful shade of brown that kids inevitably turn the paint colours into. But in the interest of learning about colours, I’d put my aversion aside and let BookBairn go wild with her mixing skills (with a little help and encouragement and lots and lots of learning chat from me!). And of course the perfect #bookpairing
is Mix It Up by @hervetullet
Such a wonderful book, that if you don’t like mess or that smudgy brown you can have similar colour mixing fun! Do you have any colour mixing book recommendations? We’d love to read more whilst we are fascinated by the subject!
Another day of #letsplayatoz_b #bookishplay

Also I just realised how many times I typed “colour” and all my US book lovers will be thinking “color” I love the idiosyncrasies of language!!
Demolition by Sally Sutton is one of my amigos most requested read alouds for bedtime. 📚
Every day we are picking out a new stick from our #picturebookplayjar
to broaden our #bookishplay
First stick he pulled out was "letter study" so we focused on "D". I held a flashcard up for reference, while he spotlighted the letter with his torch. 🔦

Airplane Week:💺🛫✈💺🛫✈💺🛫✈💺🛫✈ Imaginative play! A few cotton balls and a few airplanes! Perfect setting for a toddler activity!
Walt was itching to get stuck into this Stick Man inspired sensory tray. We started by collecting sticks from the garden, then created a small world with our @invitationtoplay
mates and sensory materials.
‘The thoughts in my head are like rushing water and I feel like a boat with no anchor...being carried away.’
I am Peace' by Susan Verde @susanverde
Some days feel a little and sometimes a lot like this. We love this book of mindfulness, it's a wonderful reminder to stop, breathe, remember what's most important and to find balance in our day again.
Inspired by the beautiful illustrations by Peter H. Reynolds, we set up some water paints - an activity that we feel always brings a little calm and peace to our day.
What can you do to invite calm into you and your child’s world today?
Airplane Week:✈🛫💺✈🛫💺✈🛫💺✈🛫💺 No time for pictures mom! There is a freaking airplane behind me! I am assuming that's what he was thinking. 😝 He didn't want to look at the camera that's for sure! That airplane was way too exciting. Started out theme this week with a small outing to an airport. It was a small airport, but it had a great park attached. We decided to have a picnic lunch, thank you @farmerboysfood
and then we checked out the airplane.
Edible, messy play for tonight's #bookishplay
We had orange eyes, poison warts and purple prickles...yum 😋. Really simple and quick to do! I used some purple food colouring to pop in the water while boiling the rice, peas and some chocolate m&m's.
It was an added bonus as my little bear ate some of the messy play so maybe handy for those fussy eaters.
You can do so many things with messy play! We kept it simple after a busy day in nursery and used spoons to try and separate the different colours. Great to develop the hand-eye coordination especially for younger children. You can develop that pincer grip by getting them to use their fingers to pick up the rice.
Lots of sense stimulation, taste, textures and colours!
For older children hide letters amongst the "mess" and then try to spell words from the letters they can find 😊

After our bug hunt this afternoon we found out all of our bug books and spent time having a little explore. Little was fascinated and went and found her magnifying glass to have a closer look!
I left the room to make a drink and came back and she had taken one of her bug books and was 'reading' it to her baby. With no encouragement she hit all three themes in one!
