Been bulking since early September, went from 192-211lbs! And I’m glad it’s over, this bulk has been rough, by no means has it been a clean bulk, in fact today I caved and had a large pizza all to myself. I try to control the extra fat coming in with some mild cardio (running/hiking) but it can only get me so far. I’m ready to get back into cardio and the fast paced weight training I’m used to😈
Felt good to get back at it today. I took a couple days off to focus on studying and my mental health, but getting back to the gym and being able to have a successful workout made me feel the best I have in a long time.
With that being said, here’s a few clips from my back workout today.
The first two are a nasty drop set that I always put after going heavy on Pendlay rows. Start with a weight you can do 10-12 reps with, with your last rep being the last possible rep you can do. Immediately drop to a weight about half of that and go until failure again. When doing these focus on keeping the top of your chest pressed against the bench and when your back is fully contracted, finish the lift with your biceps. I usually do anywhere from 4-6 sets depending on how I feel.
The next clip is nothing fancy just seated cable rows. One thing that’s helped me build my back when doing these is dropping the weight and really squeezing my back. I also make sure I’m fully extending my upper back and lats at the end of each rep. Also make sure you aren’t jerking the weight back, stay slow and controlled throughout.
The last two clips are single arm smith machine rows. I like these a lot as the weight is controlled for you so all you have to think about is the row. You can also adjust your hand position forward or backwards to target different parts of your back.
