What makes a good competition rifle? Once you’ve got yourself an AR, there’s 3 components that will take you to the next level (and a fourth to really sweeten things up).
1️⃣ A quality optic. There’s lots of good (and not so good) options for competition, but no matter the division you shoot a good optic will help you in the precision department. Getting on target fast and clear is key. If there’s one component to go for broke with, it’s your optic. You might change up your rifle, but you can always slap your glass on something better. I run a @trijicon
AccuPower 1-4x riding an @americandefensemfg
2️⃣ A good compensator. Keeping your recoil impulse down will keep you on target for fast double taps and keeps long distance targets in frame shot after shot. I’m biased, but the @mapleridgearmoury
rock solid brake does it better and sexier than any brake I’ve tried.
3️⃣ A well-built trigger. Light trigger pulls with minimal takeup and overtravel will get your splits down when you’re burning stages. To be honest, most aftermarket triggers will shoot better than you, so don’t get too hung up on which one you get. This is a @highperformancefirearms
24C, and I’d recommend any @trigger.tech
, or @cmctriggers
out there. There’s more, but I can vouch for these.
4️⃣ Your barrel. Newcomers will want to check all the previous boxes before dropping the cheddar on a barrel, since its platform-specific. Once you pair a match-grade barrel with a quality optic, you can shoot confidently knowing that if you do your part, the rifle will reciprocate. Mine is a 16.1” @mapleridgearmoury
5R stainless match barrel, and its held sub-moa for over a year past 450 yards.
