Today's Middle Ages inspired photos show the subject of Herbalism.
Herbal Medicine is one of the few branches of medicine that was developed during the Middle Ages. The cultivation and preparation of herbal mixtures was mainly done by monks in monasteries.
Herbs, plants, onions, roots, stems, leaves, seeds, fruits had their application in virtually every area of life - from the kitchen, through cosmetics, dyeing clothing to medical practices and ceremonies.
Parallel to monastic medicine, folk medicine was also developed. Mainly done by old women. They collected herbs themselves and dried or prepared infusions, decoctions and other concoctions. Folk medicine worked in secret. Patients who could not afford a medication were assisted by the witches, fortune-tellers & pellars.
Today, most people use the words "herbs" and "middle ages" to associate with a old witch who brewed suspicious stocks and produced ointment from a frog and cobweb.
Diseases in the Middle Ages were treated as punishment for sins, or bad charms, so all attempts to clean them were punished. That way The clergy fought against paganism, replacing the superstitions with faith in prayer.
