Oh Bruges, you really were quite wonderful.
Brugge was one of my grandma’s favourite places.
She went several times and my mum recalls her always saying how much she loved it.
It was special being there knowing that.
So much of Bruges felt like a fairytale.
I can’t wait to see more of Belgium in 2019.

*The face I make when walking away from things not meant for me.
It’s hard to let go of certain things in life.
Especially when we feel like this is what we wanted our whole lives, what we envisoned for ourselves.
Sometimes life doesnt give you want you so desperate feel like having.
Sometimes those bitter lemons are there to bring us much more than we thought we wanted.
Much more than we thought we deserved.
When life gives you those lemons, add sugar and eat the whole damn thing with a smile.
When people treat you badly, dont lower your standards.
Stay kind, even to the unkind.
But dont just be good to others.
Be good to yourself too.
Dare to walk away from things that dont longer contributie to your happiness, your growth or disturb your peace.
Dare to take care of yourself first.
Dare to love yourself first 🖤

Day One: Completed it mate! 😂
As beautiful as Bruges may be, it's bloody tiny. There's only so many buildings & churches you can look up at before you give into the super expensive museums 🇧🇪
Saying all that, I had a great weekend exploring with my friends. I guess being small is all part of the city's charm
Bruges is magical. It holds on tight to its golden age, retaining the mysteries of the Middle Ages. Buildings tell the story of the city's rise & fall as trade came & went 📉
Between the 12th & 15th centuries, traders from all over the world sailed to the city’s port to sell their wares & to buy Flemish cloth. Its closeness to Britain made it the perfect trading partner for England's growing wool industry 🐑
In the 15th century, the city's main route to the North Sea, the River Zwin, silted up, preventing trade reaching bustling markets. As the local economy dried up, the area suffered dramatically. Merchants moved to Antwerp, leaving the city deserted. Bruges lost its power & by the 1850s, it was the poorest city in Belgium. That was until tourism was invented & brought it back to life 🕵️♀️

Looking to the approaching submission deadline, which requires 300 things to hand in, I don’t know why I could still travel. I should have just buried myself under the leaves.
Every building in #bruges
is a beaut and this one provided handy labels on so you don’t get lost
is even pretty when you move beyond the cobbled architecture into the parks for a leafy vibe
So many lovey angles in #bruges
for a shot. This, ‘The Church of Our Lady’ is the second tallest brickwork tower in the world.
A day to remember at #bruges
Bruges, Belgium seems to have an old Cathedral on ever corner! This one in particular caught our eye while exploring the historic city.
Strong autumnal vibes in Bruges 😍
I thought I’d leave the rain behind when I came back to Rome, but apparently not. You know I read somewhere that Rome has more rain than London? I didn’t believe it at all, but after a couple of months like this I definitely do. It might not rain as often but when it does... 💧💦🌧☔️
A summer day in Bruges ✨💛
Mmmm look at all of these chocolates! Dreamy shop window in Bruges!
The perfect winter warmer at De Windmolen cafe, Bruges!
